My Swing

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm new to the boards so forgive me if I placed this in the wrong forum. Anyway, here's my swing that I had my brother take for me on my iPhone when we were at the range the other day. Sorry I didn't have him take a face on video, but here's a down the line shot. I'm a 14 handicap and my main problem that I have been facing for all eternity it seems is a slice. Any observations and constructive feedback are appreciated.

Hi Wass,

Your swing is not that bad, you have a couple of faults but you seem pretty athletic so keep working on it.

Just a couple of observations.

First you take the club back way too far to the inside. There are a couple of problems that this can cause.

First, yanking the club to the inside like that on your backswing makes it very easy to let the club and your hands get stuck behind your body. You want to try and keep your arms and hands in front of your chest. When you keep your hands in front of your chest you create a nice wide swing. That width will create a lot of leverage in your left shoulder (since your a lefty) which in turn will generate a lot of power.

Second, letting your hands get behind you also makes it harder to square the club face. The club gets stuck behind your body, the club face remains open and that will generate a slice. The other option is that your arms take over during the swing to catch up with your body and that can also lead to slices because you are not quite dropping the club to the inside like you should be.

The only other thing I would say is to try and let your left side dominate your downswing. You want to really whip the club through the ball. Don't hit the ball, swing through the ball. Just like you would throw a baseball, when you swing the club focus on the hips leading the shoulder leading the arm leading your hand and throwing the club head through the ball. This should all be a natural feeling for you. You shouldn't have to think about the downswing.

Like I said you have a good athletic action with a few faults, but keep working on it. It comes with practice and dedication.

Check out this page on The Golf Backswing to see how I keep the club in front of my body and create width. Just my opinion.

Hope this helps.

I noticed a little bit of a goat hump. I do this as well, and I have no idea how to fix it. Do some searches on this forum you'll find an abundance of tips related to goat humping. FYI if you don't know what GHing is, it's when you throw your pelvis out at the ball during impact.

Gotcha. Yeah that may contribute to my over the top move at times as well.

I agree with both of those problems - I would try standing a little closer to the ball (maybe 3-5 inches). That should help you rotate more and hopefully help with both problems.

Goat humping occurs when you quit rotating. Rotation of the core and body squares the clubface. If you quit rotating the hands are forced to flip to try and square the face. The upper body moves back forcing the hips to thrust inward allowing the hands to flip through impact. This is. Goat hump and rotating properly is the solution

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
