Callaway diablo forged vs. 09' x-forged

I was considering purchasing one of the abovementioned sets. I see on the Maltby Playability Factor that he considers the x-forged more forgiving of the two. Anybody hit both and , if so, how did they compare? There are more deals out there obviously for the x-forged and am wondering if that is the way to go. Ultimately, I want to get the better set even if it costs a little more but I was surprised by the rating and the numerous posts I've seen talking about the forgiveness of the x-forged.

Thanks.

I currently own the 07 x-forged (very similar to the 09) I went to a callaway performance center and got fit for irons, the pro there thought that the x-forged were too much of a players iron for me (im an 11 hcp) and that the diablo forged would be more forgiving. That said I proceeded to test the diablo forged and loved them. I ordered a custom set and am still waiting to get them (4 weeks)although I am supposed to get them tomorrow. Right now I can tell you that the diablo forged for me on the range and launch monitor gave me the best numbers and felt more forgiving. I will be able to give you better info tomorrow (if they show up) I'm playing as soon as they get in. I think it all depends on your game. Try them both and see how they feel, and before you buy get fit. Good luck

It's hard for me to believe some of those numbers from the Maltby report even though it's all about the numbers...and numbers don't lie.
It reports that the X forged and X-22 tour are game improvement but Diablo is coventional. Then he states that the Taylor Made Burner is a classic with a MPF of 330 compared to the Daiblo 543. I bet 9 out of 10 golfers are going to feel that the burner is more of a game improvement iron. So yes, I am confused by the numbers.

I did the callaway performance center in February and tried the X-22 tour and the Diablo forged. Diablo's were little more forgiving and felt better. Didn't try the X forged since I am about an 11 hcp. After buying Diablo's I have played a few 9 holes and have hit the range several times. I absolutely love the Diablos. Once I get time to play 18, we will see how they do but so far so good.

I have the X-Forged 09 and when I went in for my iron fitting I never expected to end up with these. From all my research and the ad campaign's I thought I would end up getting either the AP1, MX200/MX300, or the R9 TP's. Well like the previous poster said numbers don't lie. I had the best numbers with the X-Forged and the feel was incredible. Much better feel then the Diablo Forged for me.

I think depending on your swing type certain irons may feel or seem more forgiving to some. To me I know that I have gotten away with some bad swings thanks to the forgiveness of the X-Forged. Contrary to what you may think it is not very easy to work the ball with the X-Forged, I tend to hit the ball pretty straight with these, which is what I was looking for. Of course they still maintain a blade-ish style appearance at address, however if you compare them with other players CB's you'll notice they are a bit larger and have a longer blade length. Also, the cavity is pretty deep on these, which I think helps with the forgiveness and may factor into why they are not as workable. As I've said many times at the very least please give them a try against the Diablo and see what you think.

(Irons I ended up testing these against during my fitting were AP1, AP2, CB, MX300, MP58, X-22 Tour, Diablo Forged, i15, g15, R9TP, J38. Did the fitting over two days and both days the X-Forged gave me the best results. Ended up getting a set with S300 shafts. I never owned anything "Callaway" in the past, for some reason I never had any love for their advertising/marketing in general but I'm glad the fitter handed me these irons)

Hope that helps, good luck, and enjoy the process :)

The MPF places a high degree of its score based on the veritcal center of gravity of the head, how far the sweet spot is compared to the hosel, etc. They really bash TM for this and I have to tell you that I have had no luck with the R7 tp and TM tp which score low on the scale. Others players clubs rated highly, I have done well with becasue they suit my swing better.
