a great telecaster but golf aint his thing

Man i love chris berman on sportscenter and everywhere else but he just can't do golf announcing. He tries to make too many funny puns and recalls his expeditions with many a tour player often. and also, if u notice, everytime they cue any kind of music or try to cut to commercials berman HAS to interupt the other guy and practically yell the player's name that they are focusing on at the moment and talk about how one person is under par or even. i love chris berman but i dnt think he's a golf announcer...anyone else share my opinion?

Chris Berman has become a caricature of himself. I don't know why ESPN feels it's necessary to put him at all the big events, even when it's painfully obvious he doesn't belong!

I agree, I love Berman covering football, and on sports center, but he's just no good for golf.

 

The big issue is he throws off the chemistry and timing of the regular guys. Wish they'd have just used Faldo and Azinger since ABC owns ESPN.

Berman also tries to give nicknames to all the players like "Staten Island" Ferry......

 

Let Berman do the NFL, and SportsCenter, but keep him away from golf.

Berman has been getting on my nerves for awhile now no matter what he is doing. I am utterly shocked he is not in the booth for MNF on ESPN this year. It seems like he has to be the center of attention on all the telecasts he is in.

I agree, Berman shouldn't even be allowed to watch golf. I read this thread yesterday at work, without having experienced it first hand. Last night he really started to annoy me.

 

But imagine if they had Madden cover golf. That would be funny. Ok, after 10 minutes or so it would get really annoying. But give him the pen and let him go at it. Even better: Myron Cope. Dear lord, I would crap my pants.

Hey... it could be worse. We could have 5 hours of "Captain Obvious" Lanny Wadkins.

I don't think he's all that bad. He's entertaining and that's his purpose. I do like ESPN's coverage though. They're actually showing the golf without all the stupid interviews and nostalgic crap that other channels seem to do. And not a lot of commercials either.

It's amazing that ESPN continues to use him for sporting event telecasts. Keep him in the studio doing the NFL pre-game and SportsCenter. He wants to be the show rather than in the background letting the players be the story. The worst is when they bring him in for Red Sox and Yankees games. He can ruin a game for me.

I'd have to agree with some of the replies here. Berman is great for football, but I didn't like him at all for the US Open. I'm also going to agree that CBS does a much better job at covering the golf than NBC does. I was actually surprised CBC didn't get to cover this one.

I hear you...I hate it when he does Sunday night baseball also. He should stick to football.

He was horrible at the U.S. Open. He looks so uncomfortable because every bit of him wants to say something funny. At one point Thursday or Friday he took the broadcast to a new low by calling Peter "Max" Hedblom........ you know like Max Headroom......yeah real funny Chris :yahoo: .

I think he does a good job with football but after 15+ years of hearing his humor it is getting really old.

I also agree that CBS does a very good job with the broadcast but Lanny has got to go. The swingvision with Peter Kostis spot is the best thing going. NBC does a good job as well and I really like Johnny Miller. He is as honest as they come and is not afraid to say what he thinks.
