who's done it, and how much did it cost?

I'm thinking about hitting my local Lowe's, Hommie's, or hardware store to pick up some 1" PVC pipe and appropriate glue to make a little rectangle for alignment and ball position monitoring. Just wonding if any other members here have taken the do-it-yourself plunge with this sort of thing, and wether they kept it simple, as with a simple t-square setup, or made it a little more on the jazzy/multipurpose side... any thoughts?

I figure I can do the whole thing for under ten bucks... maybe :cheesy:

I made my patent pending( :cheesy: ), 3 easy payments of 19.99 (2.50 at most cost of production), alignment tool with string and two carbiner(sp) clips (you know the ones the sell for key chains). I cut a piece of the string 10 yrds long and tied it to the two clips, instant golf practice gadget. For full swing alignment use two tees to affix the tool aimed at your intended target. I stretch the line out by placing one tee 9yrds forward along my target path, to insure correct square alignment I sight down the line to my target or three feet left if I want to set the line on my foot line. Fire away knowing that your shots are flying where you want them two. Not only can I use this for alignmnet but I can also use it to measure exact distances for short game practice, chips and putts. Pretty cool and it rolls up on itself quite nicely for easy storage in your golf bag or pocket.

Is there any worries about getting nailed by an errant shot while setting the target line up on a public range?

 

I was thinking of doing something similar, where I'd build into my rectangle science project some sort of attachment point, where I could run a brightly colored string/line/rope to another PVC pipe section that I would be able to drive into the ground... I'd probably spraypaint the PVC alignment "stake" the same color as the string/line/rope...

 

If, however, I'd be at too great a risk to use at a public driving range (prefer my practice without concussions or death by golfball) then I may have to go back to the drawing board...

I just run by my local shaft place, and they give me any old pullout/cutoff/cheep/discarded shaft FREE OF CHARGE. I use these for alignment, and other things on the range.

yes, I built a "t-square" alignment aid similar to Pelz's using a PVC Tee and three one foot long segments. total cost was less than 4 dollars. I didn't glue mine so I could take it apart and carry it in my bag to the range. don't use it now as often as I used to.

I use a dowel rod which points down the intended target line for almost every shot on the range. For those days where I am feeling lucky, I use a cut off shaft stuck into the ground like Vijay uses.

 

I don't use the shaft that often, because of the "instant feedback", read "immense pain" that I receive from a shot which is hit off plane.

I may just make a simple T-square setup, leave it un-cemented, and spray paint an old dowel or shaft which I could fennagle... no, I have no idea if I spelled "fennagle" correctly or not :) :cheesy:

Get a feel for how the guys on either side are hitting the ball, then enter the gauntlet at your own risk....

 

Or ask them to give you a minute while you set your station up. At 10 yrds it is unlikely you will struck with anything that has any real velocity, more likely a shank, bad enough I know. I also use the broken shaft method, real cheap and very easy to carry in your bag.

I think I may just do the "white flag" routine and hope for the best... maybe offer the last few balls of my range bucket just to remove the temptation one may have to try for my smaller and more challenging to hit frame... thanks for all the suggestions :cheesy:
