I have golf shot and I like it a lot. I received an email saying that there are some new features. Green Zoom and configurable GPS. I am not seeing anything different. am I missing something? any golfshot users out there have any suggesetions.

thanks

I think the small plus sign + at the upper right and left of the GPS view screen is new. Now you can increase the detail of the fairway and green by pressing the plus sign. Was that there before. I don't know what is meant by configurable GPS. Hmmmm....

Ah, just looked at it again....I haven't used this for awhile....you can set the GPS for club distance and there are some other settings for GPS, Active, FocusView etc.

Too bad someone doesn't come out with a way to cut down on the reflective iPhone screen. Hard to see good detail in bright sunlight.

Not sure which iPhone you're using, but the retina display on the iPhone 4 is much better in the sun that my previous 3g.

Love golfshot!

You're correct, my 4 is better than my wife's 3GS. The reflective screen is still not too good in the sun. Someone should come out with a removable screening surface that cuts down on the glare.

I have an iphone 4 and an SGX and have used both on the course side by side and the X blows away Golf Shot in the sun..... I even asked the other 3 guys playing in my group to compare and all 3 said the same. I also ran across this on line and thought I would share, it's from engadget.com. First it's a phone that lets you use it as a GPS finder. The iphone like others are not designed for just golf!

You asked for it, so here it is: the iPhone 4's retina display versus a prototype Nokia E7 with new AMOLED Clear Black Display in direct sunlight. With both displays set to 100 percent brightness, we'd say that the EPD had a very very slight edge as it offered the best visibility under the most extreme viewing angles. Having said that, both are equally uncomfortable to use in extreme sunlight, even as that's defined on a cloudless morning in London.

I got the screen part but what about the distance accuracy? Was it sub-par?

@PaulAzinger and others have been pimping the Golfshot (http://golfshot.com/) on twitter.. and I was wondering if I should drop 30 clams for the iPhone4 or the android with the amoled display (have a samsung Epic g4 on sprint and a Captivate on ATT) .. was thinking: "I'll bet this program really sucks up battery life".. and so forth... thanks for the engadget line... seems like SGX is still the only way to travel with this technology... this is why these forums are so great! • 3 weeks later...

I have been using Golfshot for some time and have always liked it although I still use my Laser (Pinseeker 1500) on green approaches. My reason is that the flag "is" the hole and why guess at pin location. I have never paid for a subscription and have always found the courses that I was playing. I do like the SGX green slope readings but can't see paying that much more just for that feature. As far as the battery issues I simply solved that for $40 buying a RocketFish battery extender at Best Buy. I only us it when I play golf.

My only negative comment on the Golfshot and technically it is not their fault is lately some of my courses shown brown fairways making it hard to see. After contacting them they say that it is from winter pictures from Google and Bing. What stinks was they were beautiful green maps before and now they are pretty much useless. I do blame Golfshot for not previewing what maps they update to.

I used a 3GS and now a 4, both with the anti-reflective screen treatments available online or at the Apple store. I have no problem using the device in the sun. Also shows less prints and smudges.

I don't find the battery life of the 4 to be a problem in getting through the round with call time to spare, but I also use a LRF for approach shots. Golfshot on the iPhone is for info from the tee and blind or long shots in. I tend to use it more on new or infrequently played tracks to work out targets and carries while the RF is my constant companion.

I like the addition of the "Jump to Hole" functionality as it makes using it intermittently quicker and more convenient. I've always like the scorecard and shot recording functionality as well.

I use the screen off/GPS active function and find that by the time I walk to the ball it's already settled on a distance that maps closely against my frequent playing partner's SGX.

It's an inexpensive and effective way to add GPS functionality to augment the strengths of my RF.
