Upro GO, first impressions

Recommended Posts

Just bought the Upro GO last week and have used it for 2 rounds. So far, so good. I'm addicted to this thing now. I love the fact that you can change the flag location depending on where it's located on the green and it's amazing how much yards were are all off by if we are just guesstimating.

I am now a believer of using a GPS. It definitely save me some strokes by never being short (well of course if with occasional fat shots, and chunks). It definitely is a must for all golfers.

As for the unit itself, i was impressed at how simple it was to sync in my mac and when i had an error message show up on one of my favorite courses, i immediately called customer rep and fixed the issue right away.

On the course, the unit was simple to use. The mark feature is awesome - you can actually measure how far you hit your drives now, instead of just guessing it. After finishing up a hole, it prompts you if you would like to continue to the next hole. So you just press the center joystick and you are off to the next hole. At first i found this weird that it kept asking me at everyhole, but then again it made sense cause you might still be pitching around the hole and you still need to know the distance for that particular hole.

The unit also goes into sleep mode after a couple of minutes (2 mins, maybe) and comes back up instantly once you press the joystick button. No lag time as previously mentioned on the original Upro.

So far so good, as long as you play in familiar courses. But i see that the original Upro might be the one for you if you like playing in different courses every time cause it will give you the full course layout. The Upro GO only gives you yardage numbers to any hazards (front/back), this might work for others and it might not. I haven't really paid that much attention to this feature yet cause i've played on my 2 home courses and pretty much know where the hazards are.

On a scale of 1 to 10, i would give the GO a 9.

With mine, I chose the option of advancing to the next hole automatically. I find it to be more convenient. That option is found in the settings menu. If you still wish to play the existing hole (if you hit an approach onto the next tee box, for example), just use the hole selector switches on the left edge of the device.

Just got one last weekend and have played a bit with it. Very good so far, I like the quick "wake" from sleep mode, and it's quick to acquire yardages compared to other GPS I've played with. Graphics are nice and bright, and I like the small size.

I would really prefer if it had the entire hole view, with Anypoint, that would be a huge help on courses I haven't played before. The joystick is a little tough to use too for folks with bigger hands, it's easy to hit "Enter" when trying to toggle left/right. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it, and love knowing distances versus guessing...and not having to hunt for sprinkler heads.

im impressed with mine so far had it since march, like how all the courses are preloaded, like the battery life, like the screen and graphics and how accurate it is. I like how it is simple to use, basically I pick it up and look at the distance to front center and back and pick a club.

I would like to have a gps with an entire hole view, but the price diff is pretty astronomical plus the yearly fees to get that just really dont make it worth it for me playing twice a week.

There have been a few courses this year i wish i had an entire hole view. I find more and more courses here in MI either dont have a pro tips card in the cart, or the score cards or signs on the tee boxes do not show the layout of holes, this drives me nuts! one hole I played at a course this summer i layed up off the tee with a hybrid and had to take a 7 iron into the green over a huge tree and caught a branch on the top of that tree with my totally striped 7 iron and it knocked it straight down. When we drove up to the dog leg on the hole there was a miles worth of room to hit more club even driver! I was pretty mad about this.

anybody find a cart mount for their u pro go yet ?

I am looking at this unit and have a couple of questions. Can the upro handle light rain/mist and does anybody know of a reputable ebay seller I could use for purchase?

Thanks.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
