Hole View on SGX vs New Upro MX

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about upgrading my SG5 to either the SGX or the new Upro MX from Callaway – what I want is the ability to see a graphical view of the hole from where I am to the pin with yardages to hazards, bunkers , front , center , back - all overlaid on the graphical hole view without having to touch points on the screen to get distances. Being able to touch is also cool for any points not marked- but would like to be able to look down see all the key numbers.

I have the hole view feature on my SG5 but it doesn't show any numbers on the graphic layout - just a top view of the entire hole. Seems the new Upro MX does what I am looking for and I am trying to figure out if the SGX does this as well – from what I can gather on the SGX hole view is you have to touch points on the screen to see distances outside of front, back, center of the green.

Can anyone confirm how the SGX hole view works

Since pins are moved regularly, I don't think any GPS can claim to be 100% updated and accurate other than to fixed spots on the green. As to the graphics, check with a local course Pro Shop that sells both units and ask to see them side by side. I would imagine you could also do this for any course since both units have them pre-stored now.

The best you might be able to do is point to the spot where the pin might be, which can be done on the current uPro models and likely the same with the upcoming uPro MX.

I just bought the SGX.

First off, what an absolute fantastic peice of equipment...works flawlessly.

-On the SGX:
-you can see the complete hole view and in 3 or 4 different zoom levels but there are NO yardage numbers to bunkers water haz, etc.

-you CAN move your 'yardage pointer' around to find those yardages very easy using the joystick on the SGX

***** The joystick is a big advantage over the touchscreen, especially now the MX will be a smaller screen.

-trying to use your finger to move the pointer around is not a smooth operation to say the least, you will be impressed with the
joystick operation

(Also, for me, the SGX has WAY more course that are complete with hole view than the Callaway did, that was a big seller for me, as
some of the courses with callaway had basic mode only-watch out!)

Again, to answer your question, no SGX doesnt have individual #'s to bunkers water hazs etc, but, the other points listed above by far
make it a big advantage, and using the joystick takes 2 seconds to point to that bucker you're looking for to get the distance.

Hope that helps bud :good:

Thanks, ST -that is what I thought - I think you might be right about the joy stick vs. Touch screen but I still like seeing all the numbers overlaid on the hole - especially if there are bunkers on both sides of the fairway for example - to me just seems nice to see numbers to get to and carry bunkers on both sides of the fairway at a glance.

Not sure why skycaddie wouldn't also mark these points for display on the hole view as well.

will wait to see how the reviews on the MX are before i decide.

IPGA, never use what?

I have SG5 and really like it. That said, friend on mine brought his MX to the course today....I love it. Packetsize, screen is plenty big enough, and the built in courses are like SG5, scroll through targets for distances to various hazards, etc. Can also just touch on screen and calculate distance. Yardage was dead on match for SG5. I thought the screen might be too small, but not really, very usable. All for under $200...he got his at Golfsmith with a $50 coupon, so like 150...SGX cant be that much better, for over or near double the price. Pro mode courses (few free with MX purchase) are yours to keep and only like $2 if buy a few at a time...I'm sold. No more annual fees for me.
