Pinehurst Sandhills area which course?

I've played #2 and #8 before and we can't get on #4 this time around due to the Senior North-South Open going on the days we will be there (August 15 and 16). So, would you all suggest Pine Needles or Mid Pines for this trip if you could only do one of those two? I'm thinking Pine Needles but could be convinced otherwise. It seems that Needles gets higher rankings in all the top course rankings. I definitely want to play one of those because I LOVE Donald Ross courses and particularly his greens!

For sure play pine needles. #6 is also a great course.

If you like narrow tree line fairways, hilly, smaller greens, and a CC feel go Mid pines.
More open with large greens, wide fairways with a resort style feel go Pine Needles.

But for overall condition and experience, dollar for dollar I would choose PN every time.

If I were given choice between Pine Needles and Mid Pines.... I'd take Pine Needles every single time this time of year.....not that anything is or will be wrong with Mid Pines, but Peggy Kirk Bell and her Family live on Pine Needles and its ALWAYS in perfect condition.....

I received a email today that has a special going on for 3 rounds 2 nights for under $300 and it gives you Mid Pines, Dormie Club, and Tobacco Road.....
