Got a few questions for my Golfwrx friends

I'm not sure where to put this since there are multiple topics, so MODS move it if you must. First, I was just invited to fly out to Vegas to play a few rounds and hit up the Casinos in October . I have never flown with my clubs before, so 1) do you have any tips about flying with your clubs, and 2) what is the best, or most reliable club carrying case?

 

Now that the first question has been asked, now it's time to get to the fun stuff. We are playing Rio Secco, Cascata, and Shadow Creek. Has anyone played these courses. I've checked out the websites and they look awesome. The new golf digest has Shadow Creek as a top 100 course in the U.S.

 

Also, we are staying at Caesars Palace, any info or experience there? Thanks everyone! If there's anything else you can add to add to the experience, or somewhere else we should hit up while we are there, don't hesitate to add. Thanks.

My advice would be to go play there in December . . . it's WAAAAY to hot right now to play golf there!

Only tips are don't get excited about the charge for taking them. And, if you have a carry bag tag it in your travel bag. Should leave room for shoe's, balls, etc. Also, wrap a towel around and through the clubheads for some extra protection.

Best travel bag is Club Glove but they are pricey. Any hard side bag will work fine. Don't get some soft canvas travel bag. Clubs can get damaged.

you are really going to enjoy the golf. shadow creek is heaven on earth. its amazing that its in the middle of the desert because you cant see anything but trees, you forget youre in vegas. my caddie told me that they bought a course in NC when building shadow creek to take their trees and bring them to vegas! only in america. its my favorite course that ive ever played.. awesome layout, excellent service, great caddies. played there 2 days in late march and im headed back for another couple rounds during labor day weekend. the only problem with the course is that it makes my home course seem like a dog track!!

You might compare the alternative of renting a set of clubs while you're there, although for playing three different courses it probably makes sense to schlep your own. When I go overseas I've just settled on a big old ugly SKB hard case. But I've done it with a Club Glove (and to California from the east coast as well) with the only problem being a bent putter shaft on one of my return trips. If you do use a Club Glove be sure to get a "Stiff Arm" pole so your bag and clubs don't have to provide the end-to-end stiffness for the bag. If you take a hard case, try and find some place to stash it when you get there (at the airport would be great but probably not possible nowadays).

I've played the Secco, but not Cascata yet. If you want the entertainment, the Caddy Chicks do make the round much more fun.

Right now, go for an earlier tee time and wear plenty of sunblock. Plan on drinking a lot of water.

funny thing is that I go to vegas about 2 times a year (since I only live 4 hours away by car)...and I never played golf there!
i go there to drink for free..play some cards, slots,poker..bet on football, etc
hit those nice little clubs with a pole and a stage, dance clubs, etc.

Bears Best is a course you might want to check out. supposed to be a mix of Jacks; best 18 holes of golf he designed all in one course.

If your going to be there for a few solid days and have the time, I would recommend shipping your clubs FedEx/USPS, its about 3 days each way, but its far cheaper and they are far more likely to get there in one piece.

Club Glove soft case (won't crack open when baggage handlers toss it like a sack of potatoes).
Stiff arm pole (to absorb the shock from any impact to the top of the bag)
Stuff it full with soft, pad like stuff (socks, underwear, T-shirts, etc.)
Have the ticket counter person put a "Fragile" sticker on it.

I've traveled extensively (business, pleasure) both domestically and internationally over 20 years. I've never had a broken club. Ever.

My best piece of advice? Ship the clubs out Fedex to your hotel before you leave. That's what I do when travelling to Florida. The hotel will accept deliveries for you, and it has always been cheaper and more reliable than trusting the airlines.
