it arrived - review and pics

the nike ignite 340 tw special edition arrived today. good looking club. significantly smaller looking than the ignite 410 from the crown view. from the face view it reminds me a lot of the ignite fairway woods. there is no allignment aid on the crown. there is no loft on the bottom of the club, but the tag on the driver said 9.5*. shaft is a stiff grafollay blue. grip is a nike grip but not the typical nike grip.

one this i noticed is the face. it had a very rough looking face with the "grain" running vertically. it also has grooves across the whole face.

performance:
after a few iron shots and shots with the sq and ignite 460 i gave this a shot. i don't know if its a 85 gram or 65 gram blue shaft, but the club has some weight - feels good. first shot was halfway between the toes and center. i was on the left side of the range, aiming at the center yardage marker and put the ball off the net on the right side of the range. yeah, not forgiving. a few more swings and i was good. this driver has a very muted sound a very solid feel. with the feel, i am not sure if this is a titanium face driver or a steel face driver. it felt like no driver i've ever used. my t-60 3 wood has a tingy sound and softer feel than this. it was at this point that i realized the driver reminded me of the t-60, but less forgiving. i was able to get some great shots off with it. i had expected it to remind me of my nike forged 350, but still more mute and sold than that. i might even compare it to a larger version of the titliest 975D - yeah shocker there.

trajectory was similar to my forged 350 w/ graffolay prolite. its about a 13* launch angle. i think the spin could be similar, didn't seem too high.

distance i wasn't expecting much out of it and at first wasn't getting much, but after i was able to get my fade out of it i was getting some good distance. appeared to be just past my forged 350, but short of my ignite 460. definetly not going to knock the sq or the ignite 410 or 460 out of the bag.

control was the most of any driver i've had. while i had some problems at first with fading (typical shot anyways) but i was hitting it quite straight and was able to draw the ball on command. i can only hit draws with my ignite 410 and forged 350, but its not easy. this was easy like my t-60 fairway wood.

all in all, 2 years ago this would have been nice, but the ignite 410/460 and sq models are far supieror. i might take it on a short course just for fun someday. still a good investment just because its something different and because i am such a nike ho.

I spoke with one of the guys from Fort Worth & he said they'd done a 375cc Ignite for Tiger also...

it does look pretty rough, but what i thought was more interesting is that it is up and down rather than side to side. the other ignites and sasquatch have it too, just not nearly as pronounced but its side to side. however, it does give it a nice dark non reflective appearance.

Rockbottomgolf.com has these for 100 now. Was wondering if anyone else has tried this thing? It looks awesome and seems like a Nike version of perhaps a K/975 series? I currently have an ignite 410 that I like (except the diamana doesnt spin the ball enough). Was lookin at pickin this up, any thoughts?

I must have missed this review when it was originally posted but I just won an auction for 40 bucks for one of these. I more or less plan to keep it as a collectors piece, but I may be tempted to hit it.

Mine just arrived today and I am very impressed with the look of this club. Considering my 2 best drivers ever are the Nike 275cc and the 983k, I should be fine with the 340. I really enjoyed the 275 except the face was steel and the stock shaft was a lil whippy. Add 65cc, Grafalloy Blue, and titanium with around the crown/NexTi and this may be an outstanding club. Got it for a nice price as well. Will post review after a few rounds/range time.
