Attorney or lawyers in Virginia??

Just trying to get some advice or help from fellow WRX'ers out there. I was heading to North Carolina and got clocked at 81 in a 70 mph zone. Anything over 80 in VA is considered reckless driving and I got my ticket. It didnt say how much the fine was, but it had a number to call. I was caught in Mecklenburg County (Boydton) and was trying to see what are my options and if anyone has been unfortunate to go through with the court process in Virginia, what happened? I'm reading horror stories and the incredible fines that people write up and it has me shook a little. I've only gotten one ticket before in Maryland (Howard County) and that was removed from my record (probation before judgement of 1 day) and a fine.

 

Any suggestions or any good lawyers to contact if I do need one? I was about 3.5 hours away from home so I'd honestly rather not go to court cause it is a drive away, but if the horror stories are true about Virginia and their laws, then I may need to go and get a lawyer.

I got a ticket in Emporia, Virginia on my home from Myrtle Beach. Believe it was 80 in a 65. I went to court (always do), and I hadnt had any other tickets for 8 years previous. I had to pay court cost ($40) and also had to complete a driver improvement class in Maryland. Not too bad, it was a one day 8 hour class. Definately go to court, since your license is clean, you will get off easy. Just be sure to tell them that you are sorry, and you dont want any points.

I did find a lawyer through a recommendation from a friend. I would have gone down there to argue the case myself but then again 1.) it was 3.5 hours away from where I live, and 2.) the reckless driving charge/misdemeanor charge was gonna go on my record so I had to hire a lawyer. I thought about defending myself and see if I can get it lowered but I read a lot on VA driving laws and court cases and everyone pretty much said to hire a lawyer especially for the misdemeanor charge and saving myself from driving all the way down to the VA/NC state line. VA's driving laws are ridiculous

That's the damn truth. I've fixed more than my fair share of potholes for the commonwealth.
