MP-69 Mixed Set

MP-69 and ????
Let me start by saying, I know I should get fit and plan on it.

For the last 3 seasons I have gamed the MP-62 with the PX 6.0. After chickening out on new irons for the 2011 season, I'm getting new ones for 2012. I plan to get the MP-69 in 7-PW. Now the question is what do I get for 4-6? I was thinking either MP-59 or the JPX-800 Pro, but want to hear everyone's thoughts.

I play to a 7 and am fully confident I can handle the blades in the shorter clubs, and have be hitting the long iron's of the MP-62 pretty well over the last 3 seasons. My home track is pretty short (6464 yds) and I really don't find myself with longer clubs for second shots, the only time I always hit the 4-6 is from the tee on 2 of the 4 par 3's.

Another question, now that Mizuno's PW in the MP line is 46* what are you guys getting for your next wedge? I currently go 52, 56, 60, but have you guys found that 6 degrees is getting to be too much in between?

What about shafts? I have liked the PX shafts but am thinking of trying the KBS in this set. I really would like to stay away from DG, I had those in my MP-32's and didn't like them.

I know I have asked a lot, and I need to be fitted for this new set but just trying to get some feedback.

Much thanks,
Mark

I am now looking (buying) a mixed set of 59's and 69's. I am coming from the Mp60's. The new irons will have KBS Tour Stiff shafts

I really like the 62's, but the 60's are easier to hit IMO. 59's would also work pretty well. As for the pw, you can have it bent to 46*. I don't think 6* between wedges is too much.

I am a big PX fan and found that I also like the DG shaft, although its kick isn't as firm as PX's. I like to feel my shaft load and kick so I'm not a big KBS fan. That shaft is just way too smooth for me. I haven't tried the C tappers. I've also read that ppl who like PX will also like the new shaft Nippon has come out with. I think its called the super something? Sorry I'm suffering from a brain flatus at this moment.

Two thoughts.

If you don't mind breaking up your set of 62s why not use the longer irons out of that set. If you are going to a different shaft in the 69s just have the 62s reshafted to the same.

Sole grind. The turf interaction between the 62s and 69s might be different, I don't know as I have not played either. Going to a 53, 63 or 59 would keep thing more cosistent. The 63 would probably be closest to the 62 with a little more forgiveness. Not till I got my 53s did I realize how much of a difference sole grind can make if it matches up with your swing type, love my 53s.

Of course trying demos outside off the turf would be the best way to go. Good luck and have fun with your search.

Okay I bit the bullet and used up some pro shop credit I had at my club. I order

MP-59 4-6
MP-69 7-PW

All with KBS Stiff

My pro ordered them with some Tour Velvet Full Cords in Red for me too!

I'm excited, just in time for the deep freeze up here in Massachusetts!

I'll keep everyone posted!
