Wondering what i have. I have a set (2-8) of macgregor Tommy Armour Silver Scot Model Rec. No. 3852 s irons. They have wrapped grips and fake hickory shafts. The faces have an "A" on the sweet spot. Also i have a Wright and Ditson 1 wood, Straight Play, fake hickory shaft, leather grip with finger notches, and an unreadable name on top, Harry ?????.

The 3852's are Pre WWII Armours. The shaft are steel with a pyratone sheathing, instead of chrome plating. Shaft color is probably green; but there you occasionally see them with a cream-colored shaft. I haven't seen 3852 Armours with a darker walnut sheath. They also made some with a "silver" coating. MacGregor also made model 3852 Byron Nelsons. The set I have seen had the darker Walnut sheath on the shafts. The "A" on the clubface indicates pretty early production. So they are probably circa 1935-37.

The Wright and Ditson driver is probably of a similar age for 2 reasons.: 1. the pyratone shaft. and 2 because Spaulding acquired Wright and Ditson. It occurred either before or during WWII.
The name onf the top could be Harry "Light Horse" Cooper, a very good tour player of that era. Just a guess.

Keep lookin" and Happy Huntin"

Ironmaster-

That brings to mind a question one of my friends has-
Both AG Spalding, along with Wright and Ditson, made Cashin putters.
He has acquired both models, along with that MacGregor TA IM 3852.
Is there any difference in value to them?

Thanks

I should know when Wright and Ditson was acquired; but I don't. It almost seems that they were making the same putters and wedges at the same time. Maybe there was a phase-out of the W&D name over a year or so. W&D Cash-ins are much less common that Spauldings. Spauldings most collectable putter was the HBA model. It was a flanged model that, unlike the Armours, had the shaft/hosel a little bit away from the heel, not unlike the Cash-in.
The Armour 3852 Ironmaster's putter is the original I/M. Only made for a few years before the war, they usually came with a set of 3852 Armour irons Listed as a 10 iron. I have not seen them advertised individually. About the same time a very similar Ironmaster's was produced which didn't have 3852 stamped on the sole. And it had an "A" as a sight line on it. Maybe it was what you got when you ordered it separate from a full set.

Ironmaster-

Thanks again for the info. $70 will get you the TA 3852 IM with the pyratone (green) shaft.
To my knowledge, as strange as it seems, Spaulding HBA putters appear to have been RH only.
The HBA model was copied by Burke and Old Master, and others, but I have not seen a LH HBA
...Have you?
