Got to play with an LPGA player today

Went out to the course as a single, since my regular partners had other commitments. They paired me with a 3 ball. The first guy teed it up, and hit it 15 yards right. He then teed up another and hit it 10 yards left. I looked at the starter and said: "Any other openings". He said there was an LPGA player 2 4-balls later, and asked if I wanted to join. I said "Is the pope a catholic?" I looked at the guys, they looked at the player, and said: "Go for it".

 

Her name is Celeste Troche. She has played 3 years on the tour, and has conditional status this year. Here is her LPGA bio

Technically, she has an absolutely magnificent golf swing. I would have to say that I have not seen a better swing for a lady. Her ballstriking is something to behold. She had 1 mishit the entire round, everything else was pure. Where she lacks is distance and putting. She had 4 3-putts. She played the gold tees at Eagle Dunes, here in Sorrento, FL (www.eagledunes.com). 71.6/124 rating (for men), 6588 yards. She shot a 76. It was a great experience, and I will definitely follow here career from here on out.

 

She plays some old equipment. She said she plays what she is comfortable with, not whats new. She plays a 11* ERC Fusion (NOT BB Fusion), Ping G2 irons, Callaway Steelhead Plus FW woods, and a C-Groove mallet putter.

 

For the record, I played the same tee and shot 75. I hit the ball like crap, and had 4 3-putts as well. What saved my round was a chip in eagle on the last.

That's pretty cool. The only people I have played with that are famous were an NFL Head Referee and a guy that was a Governor at the Federal Reserve and met with Greenspan all the time to set the interest rate.

Great story and thanks for sharing. Lucky you! Whenever I get joined up with anyone, it sounds much more like that first guy with the left/rights then what you got paiired up with. :drinks:

You are lucky. I always like to play with people around my own skill level. Every time I end up getting paired with someone that shoots say in the 80's my game goes to crap is there is no pressure for me to match a shot.

Thanks for sharing Springbok. Was she better or worse than what you thought going into the round? Also, what did you learn from her that you can maybe apply to your game (i.e. pre-shot routine etc.)?

Other than her putting, she was better. My sister is a good golfer. She has shot sub 70 rounds often. However there is a world of difference between her game and the LPGA pro's. The pro's ball striking is soooo pure. Everything was so solid, and her swing is so technically good. She lacks power though. She said that it is because she swings easy on every shot, and never chases the ball. She was hitting 9 woods where I was hitting 7 irons. However, her 9 wood was always pure. If she could putt, I think she would do well on tour.
