Daly to lose TOUR card

"Hey Mr. Lion, I'm doing the best I can....watching you grip it and rip it.......I wanna see you on Tour again..."

My partial parody of John Daly's "Mr Fan" song on his album.

http://www.thegolfblog.com/2006/10/john-da...-tour-card.html

He's going to need a miracle to save his card. If he doesn't, expect to see a bunch of JD in one of two places. Either on the Euro Tour after the first of the year -or- at your local Hooters inbetween appearances at your local range doing long drive demonstrations.

You're in my prayers JD.

Well that definetely sucks. But he'll get a bunch of sponsor invites I have a feeling. The guy is a huge draw. Probably the second biggest next to Tiger. We'll see. I wish him the best.

I think the Tour rules max out at 10 sponsor invites per player per season. That's less than 40% of the chances he has in a normal season to make a lot of $$$ (or win) and get his card back. I doubt it will happen, but it'll be interesting to see if he has the patience to go through Monday qualifying in certain events as well.

Honestly, I'll be very surprised if he makes it back next year on sponsor exemptions alone.

As a past champ Daly will see at least 10-12 events through the "Past Champion" status. He will get into the events he has won automatically plus the British Open. He can take an additional 7 sponsor exemptions plus unlimited exemptions with appearence fees in Europe. That all equals a full schedule for 2007, assuming he doesn't get through tour school.

Maybe John will really "practice" now and come back and kick Tiger's you know what. Wouldn't that be sweeet?

At 192d on the money list, John Daly, a two-time major winner, is doomed to have no card next year. He'll get into the PGA Championship and the British Open as a past winner, plus he'll be eligible for seven sponsors exemptions. Beyond that, he'll have to hope for chances to fill out the fields in lesser tournaments owing to his status as a "past champion."

I have always liked JD but if he put the smokes and the beer down lost a bit of weight and actually took the game serious and practiced he would probably do better. I know he has had a tough time with the wife doing time and all, his flop of a tv show which I liked but the routine got old quick and took alot of his time to do.

I dont know I just wish he would put his heart back into it and he probably would kick someones booty.

I used to enjoy watching Daly. Then I read "Who's Your Caddy?"

Now, any time I see or hear about Daly, the mental image of the 'bratwurst in the RV' story from the book pops into my head. Pretty much eliminated any desire to watch or hear about Daly again, just to keep that image out of my head. :drinks:

Eggggg-zactly.

Every time I see that Winn Grips commercial with him and Butch Harmon, I get a little nauseous.

Explain the story for those (like me) who haven't read the book.

That's a tricky proposition, as the subject matter isn't exactly "family friendly", but I'll try.

The premise of the book is that Rick Reilly goes around trying to get golfers to let him caddy for them. He gets pro golfers, LPGAers (my favorite chapter btw), hustlers, and hollywooders. Each chapter is Reilly caddying for a different person.

In the John Daly chapter, he tags along with Daly and his regular caddy in Daly's RV. At one point, as a joke, Daly whips out his . . . er, manhood and says "they don't call me Long John Daly for nuthin'." Out of context, I simply can't convey Reilly's rather vivid description of what he saw. Sufficed to say, the words white and bratwurst were involved.

I used to love bratwurst and sourkraut on a hot dog bun. Stupid John Daly.

I am glad you didn't go into full detail and the minor details are slightly disturbing enough.

from interviews i've seen with him, his lifestyle has no effect on his game... he's been drinking like a fish, eating like a hog and smoking like a chimney since his college days, when he was at his best...

No one is exempt from the detrimental effects of smoking, alcohol abuse, and over-eating.....that lifestyle catches up with everyone.

I used to enjoy him too, until I read "A Good Walk Spoiled". I didn't know/recall half of the stuff he did. People love him blindly for being a guys guy and going through the struggles he's had, it's just too bad that doesn't also mean he's a class act.
