golf getaways/ vacations as a single

options / opinions

hi guy and gals,

just wondering if anyone has experience, in booking and actually going on vacation or weekends golf trips as a single.....

ie. when booking is it easy to get a time or do they frown upon singles?

is it harder to get rooms.. just the basics..

When my family goes to Myrtle Beach in the summer I always get a few rounds in. Some of the courses there don't book singles, at least through the website I go through. The ones that do have been great to play at. Never had any issues or been treated anything but well there. Usually I get paired up with a 2 or 3 some so it gives me a good opportunity to meet new people. Last yr I played at the Myrtle Beach National West course and got paire with 3 older women and we had a blast. They were great playing partners. Alot of it may depend on where you go.

My wife doesn't play, so we run into this a lot. While I get the "2 people are more revenue than one" mentality to a degree, 1 person is more revenue than none. When I've priced stuff out, it has almost come out cheaper to list my wife as a golfer than it has to book a room for two and rounds just for me. What I've found is I need to call and talk to someone, because the online systems just are not setup to deal with us. once you get a rapport with someone, then you can get some flexibility built in.

The advice to call is the way to go if you are worried about tee times. At destination type courses I've never had a problem, but at the daily fee courses I've occasionally been unable to get advance tee times so just show up at the course and hope to get out within an hour.

I usually get paired up with a 2-some at the resorts that allow me to make advance times. The exception was my trip to Bandon. 4 of the 5 rounds I played as a single. It was great going out with no one in front of me but my round at Pacific Dunes I was 4th group to go out and was behind 3 groups of 4-somes. Playing as a single between groups of 4 really put a downer on the round.
