Between Pittsburgh and Kiawah

Rather an odd question, but my group is driving from Pittsburgh to Kiawah for our golf trip in April. We are playing all 5 resort courses and the 2 private courses on Kiawah once we get down there, but we were curious as to adding a course or two on the way down. Does anyone have any recommendations for a very nice course that would be somewhere between Pittsburgh and Kiawah (prefer it to be about half-way to breakup our driving)? We were tempted to stop off in Pinehurst (to play either Dormie or Number 2), but were curious as to if there were any other recommendations out there? I think we are going to add Rivertowne in Charleston as a warmup once we get down there.

Stonewall Jackson resort in Roanoke WV has a beautiful Palmer course. It's a nice resort level course with beautiful elevation changes in a challenging track. It's about 2 1/2 hours south of Pittsburgh right off I-79. Not halfway to your destination, but a good option nonetheless.

The tradition at royal new kent in Va. It's a must play and is all the course you need. Incredible piece of land great bunkering and a brutile finishing hole.

The Greenbrier is a pretty convenient stop about halfway. A little further out of the way is The Homestead, but I enjoyed a little more.
