Tour Clubs CG placement

How is this possible?

I have read that tour woods (such as TM) have lower CG placements for higher launch and lower spin. How is this possible? Is there a different casting where the crown is thinner and the sole is thicker? I seriously doubt it. If they don't do it this way, how can they do it? I know many of the tour heads have a bit of hot melt, but I don't think it significantly changes the CG location.

I guess I can buy it for some clubs like the FT-3 where they truly have 50g of weight to move around as they see fit (they even had the LCG and HCG designation on the heads), but with other manufacturers such as TM I just don't buy it.

Would there be anyway to verify CG by the average person? I think no, but I thought I would ask.

They can apply different materials as well as hotmelt to acheive what the player wants. For instance what Taylor Made did for me to make sure I had what I needed. I had a 425 when they 1st came out & had the weights set up for a fade, the head was 8.5* 3* open so played 7.2* is what the sticker said. I don't like to see much of the face at address so I needed a low loft but with the weights set up for fade the flight was a little lower than I wanted. Since I couldn't goto a higher loft b/c I didn't wanna see much of the face at address they added lead powder with hotmelt to get the flight up with out screwing up my fade setup. There are a lot of things that the tour dept can do to get the CG to the players desires without changing specs & what the player likes to look at. Joey Kwok can do just about anything. I don't think there is any real way to figure out how the CG was altered unless you know the person or player the club comes from. You maybe able to guesstimate it but thats about it.

So what you are saying is that the raw heads (retail/tour) are the same and customized afterward. That is what I expect is reality. I understand that tour clubs undergo CT testing and the ones on the low end not issues to players, and that various club data (face angle, actual loft, weight, etc) are recorded, but the RAW heads come from the same source.

Various places on the head to help influence ball flight and spin. It could be placed anywhere and the head would be positioned in a way so that it cures in the right place for the right flight.
