Course and Hole Recognition

To my knowledge, Golf Buddy (at least the World Platinum II) is the only GPS that can recognize both the course and the hole you are on after you turn it on. Does anyone know of any other manufacturer's Golf GPS that can do this? Anyone have any idea why no others, or so few others, are able to do this? If the GPS can follow you around the course after you've provided the hole you are starting on, why can't it identify which mapped hole you are on when you turn on the device or go to a starting hole? Thanks for any expedia-like replies or guesses.

The Golf Guru devices, after synching with the satellites, always sort the course list based on proximity with the course one is on at the top of the list. If you are playing a shotgun start they will not default to the hole you are starting on but once you indicate that they do feature automatic advance to the next hole, including going from 18 to 1.

Not sure why you came to that conclusion. Skycaddie has been doing that with every model I have owned over the past seven years, It can even tell if you are at the driving range.

Yup, SkyCaddie's do this.

It's strictly in the programming of the software, and if a company wants to spend the extra dough for that feature.

The sad/ridiculous/unbelievable part about SkyCaddie that was NOT also added, is while it can sing and dance and tell you, it still does not allow you to sort the courses downloaded in alphabetic order. Just a semi random order when turned on, till you're outside, then closest to you in distance.

Go figure, who would ever want to see the list in order from A-Z.
