Should I stop using my driver?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This is my first post/question. Here is a quick rundown if my game. Been playing about 3 yrs, shoot low/mid 90's good w/putter and irons, driving and chipping not so much. I get to play 2-3 time a week w/maybe a range day at lunch. Just bought a g15 4 wood stock stiff shaft because if the great posts I read on here. Love it. Hit more fairways then ever misses were still playable not OB and BROkE 90 for the first time!! Should I stick with this approach and by the V2 I want so bad for better practice and play or still look or a driver? Pls help Thx in advance.

I would go with what's working with you for now and get the driver that your excited about and practice with it off the course and even get some lessons would help. I used to never start the season off with my driver until I got in the groove with my other clubs and even after several weeks I'd hit a different wood off the first tee. Once you gain some confidence with it you'll be using it more and more. Good luck to you!!!!

Find a demo day and hit a bunch of drivers. I never thought I would use a ping driver, but after hitting all of them, the I20 was best for me.

Hit them all and see what works best for you.

WORK on your short game and get in the 80's.

Seek some professional help and learn how to "correctly" hit a solid chip and a pitch. These skills will transfer into your longer clubs and you'll be ready for whatever club you desire.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

If you want to hit driver, get one that matches your swing/game and stick with it. I can easily shoot in the low 80s without a driver, but I've never been able to break 80 without one because the extra distance does come into play on some holes. The only way you'll get better with a driver is to play with a driver. It's never the club that leads to mishits, it's the swing. You might also find that you alter your swing with a driver unlike any other club. I play with people who say they play better without a driver. If I can see that their driver isn't a total misfit to their swing/game, I then suggest they 1) choke down on the grip - driver shafts are often too long for anyone who can't consistently repeat the swing; 2) swing at 80-90% or no harder than they ever would with a 3 or 4-wood; or 3) a combination of both. The result is almost always the person immediately seeing that they don't need a new driver. A purely hit 80-90% driver almost always has better results than you can get out of 3 or 4-wood. Give it a try.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
