+index players that can't break 78 in a tourney

Yeah know 'em too, but those guys either don't show up or run they from a bet with some lame excuse........

 

 

 

Anyone know any vanity handicaps that are +indexes and can't break high 70's or 80's in tournaments?

Some really thing they are still +indexes???

Didn't know it would ruffle so many feathers. For clarification; I was not referring to any tournament and/ or a money game. It is correct that if you did not follow the rules during that type of match, you would be in deep "Doo Doo". What I had reference to, was the practice of not playing by the rules during a casual round, but then posting that bogus score to your index. There is bound to be a desparity when that person enters a tournament.

I hadn't realised there is such a disparity between USGA handicaps and playing practices and the rest of the world.

 

Here in Australia, if a member of a club, we also play by strict R&A rules. Only competition rounds where you have a marker and there is a CCR count for handicaping, and it is strictly play it as it lies with no gimmes of any sort.

 

Anyone hazard a guess what the handicap differential between a USGA handicap and an R&A (or similar) would be?

 

It's got to be three shots or more.

Been discussed many times on various forums and i think its accepted that,certainly between the UK and US,you could expect to be at least 2 shots lower in the US due to being able to post non-competative rounds and your handicap being an average of the best 10 of the last 20 rounds ? etc etc

 

In the UK (certainly once below 5.4 - catagory 1 H/C ) handicaps can only be adjusted on competition rounds from White tees,and no friendlies,matchplay events etc count towards handicap reductions.At this stage any adjustments are also only done by your COUNTY,not your club - cards are sent away for this to be done.

 

The UK is also a "running total" handicap,meaning a scratch handicapper "averages" - and has averaged - around scratch,whereas in the States i gather this handicap is more likely to be the best of a players ability.

There's no real way to compare the two systems. The problem with the CONGU(thats what the R&A uses) handicap is that in general the ratings for the courses are awful. The USGA system, while has its own problems does a much better job of rating the courses. In reality though, both systems are pretty bad.
