Where to Play?

California here we come

This coming spring break, our school's golf team will be competing in a few tournaments in the LA area (very broad description I know). We are planning on flying down a few days early (from Washington State) to practice and get adjusted to being able to play without jackets on :) . Does anyone have suggestions of good courses in the LA area to would be good places to play that aren't extremely expensive? Preferably these courses would be able to play anywhere from 6200 to 7000. Thanks for the help.

Rustic Canyon in Moorpark, Simi Hills in Simi Valley and Brookside #1 or #2 in Pasadena are all good courses that won't break the bank. Rustic is my favorite. I'm sure some others will chime in with a few more :)

Rustic is great! It really depends where you are staying in the greater Los Angeles area, i.e. downtown, westside or valley... If you are part of a college team, I would ask your coach to start calling the private courses and explain that the team is coming to town & ask if they can make accomodations.

For public courses, I would recommend Rustic Canyon, Angeles National, Oak Quarry, Industry Hills, Brookside, Robinson Ranch, Moorpark C.C. and Lost Canyons. Obviously, there are better rates during the week & check out their websites, some have specials.

Most of those are pretty good suggestions. Depending on where you are going to be, you could play Empire Lakes in Ontario (Nationwide plays there) or Los Serranos in Chino Hills. Both are reasonable in terms of price and decent courses. Empire is certainly the best of the 2.

Please stay away for Los Serranos-- take a 45 min trip to beaumont,CA and play the 2 courses there. PGA Southern California. The legends and The champions course. From the tips they are long and fun! Great course better pricing than LA too. IF your golf coach made a phone call i bet you could get like the junior rate. I have played there many a times and that facility is top notch. They have a full range and practice facility. You could spend a day working on your golf game there and not run out of shots to hit on there short game area!!!!

From the tips on the legends course it is 7400 yards and it will make any course you will play in compition look and feel like a putt putt course. If you play the tips it will put hair on your balls! haha
