Saving Callaway Optifit Adapter?

I have what I think is an aftermarket Callaway Optifit Adapter I’d like to try and save. 
 

Is there a way to remove the cogs before applying heat?  Also the tip section may need to come off as well?  I can’t seem to pry that off though.

Use a cut grip.  I have done it every time I have removed the Callaway adapters and they come off easily.

I’ve removed dozens of Optifit adapters, not with a torch, but a heat gun, 15 seconds at a time, under tension.  I’ve not found a need to remove the cogs.  It always slides off, often with the ferrule intact and reusable.

Do you use a precision heat gun with a smaller outlet or just a standard one?

I use the standard one with no issues.   For several years I used the heat gun for all shaft removals, never had a problem.    But now use a torch for irons and hybrids.  A wet cloth and heat gun for composite FW’s.

The cogs come off with minimal force.  Just remember the order and orientation to put them back on correctly.

Yes it's better if you do take them off.   They slow down getting heat where it needs to be and the slower that happens the higher the risk to the shaft.

 

Only the really old versions with the plastic tip would need to have the tip come off.
