Coastal NC - Emerald Isle

Anyone from the area or been to the area? Probably heading there for a little family vacation in August and since we'll be there for a full week, I'm hoping to get a couple rounds in. Any decent courses around there?

Check out Star Hill Golf Club, 27 holes, decent golf not great and a few miles from Emerald Isle. Silver Creek is also a few miles, 18 holes, good layout but varying conditioning. Make sure you have strong kidneys if you go to Silver Creek, worst cart paths I have seen. Country Club of Crystal Coast is on the Island, short with a lot of water, same again varying conditioning, no problem with public play. Those are the 3 closest courses. Lots of other options within an hours drive. Have fun you will like Emerald Isle.

Thanks. Played Atlantic city cc last year and the paths can't be any worse. Half buried railroad were pretty much continuous speed bumps.

I'm only going to sneak out for a couple early rounds by myself so those sound good enough. Thanks again.

North River Club in Beaufort is the only course worth playing around there. Here is the link:

Have you played North River lately? Money problems, a really strong track going downhill rapidly.

No it has been about a year or so since I have payed there.

North Shore, Cape Fear National, and Castle Bay are all nice courses in that area. Cape Fear National is one of my favorite new courses. Perfect conditons and great layout. Here is the link:

Thanks but topsail island place fell through.....ended up renting on emerald isle. Will have to check into those places mentioned earlier.

I grew up in morehead city and know the area very well, playing in a tournament this Saturday at star hill. I will report back on the conditions of the course after the round. If your game is suited for short/small courses then I would suggest star hill. Country club of crystal coast is a funky little course. If you hit the ball over 250 yards you can almost leave your driver home. The greens are usually bumpy and not in the best shape. Star hill is a much better option and only 10-15 minutes away. I would drive to north shore (30-45 minutes) and play a much nicer and challenging golf course. Have fun in Emerald Isle, its a beautiful place.

I grew up there, played all these courses A LOT. I'd play Silver Creek over Star Hill any day of the week even considering that Silver Creek is a good bit worse now than it was 15 years ago when I first started playing there. I haven't played the "Country Club of the Crystal Coast" since it was called Bogue Banks CC (and I think the new name is idiotic, BTW) and while I would say the course isn't bad, the last time I looked, they charge a bit more than I would pay. North River Club is/was the best in the area, though it's not really close to Emerald Isle, but I haven't played there in close to 2 years, so I can't comment on conditions.

FYI - Star Hill was in pretty good shape. The course will not blow you away but it's probably the best/closet option outside of driving 45 minutes. The bunkers need a little work but that is the case with 75% of the courses in eastern nc. The greens were true and fairways in fairly good shape.
