Kiawah - October

I've read a couple of the older Kiawah threads, but thought I'd start a new one to see if anybody had any advice.

We've got a house for a week on Kiawah Island and I'd really like to play the Ocean Course. Is it easy to get on even though we're not staying at the Resort?

What about the other courses?

Any advice is great. Thanks.

Is it a friends house? Generally, if you're staying on property, you're renting or going through the local real estate company. They can hook up rounds, but I don't think it would be an issue getting on the course. Might cost you more because it's not part of a deal, but that's it. As far as other courses, it's up to your connection network. River Course and Cassique are great, but pretty hard to wrangle access. The other courses on the island are all good. Osprey is my favorite. Turtle is OK, but it relies too much on a few mediocre ocean holes. Oak Point can be fun, but it's off property a bit. If you go into Charleston, there's a few stellar options, but they (again) require a connection network.

The Ocean Course is easy to get on, regardless of where you are staying. You could check with the rental company to see if you can get any deals, but October is peak time down here so it may not be possible. If you don't mind playing 36 in a day you can play one of the other courses in the morning and play the Ocean Course at the replay rate (somewhere between $150 and $200 instead of $375 if I recall correctly).

As far as the other courses go they're all really good. I really like Cougar Point and Osprey Point above the others. As jptruck said above, Turtle's attraction comes from 3 holes on the ocean. Problem is they're wedged into a really small space and truthfully, they aren't very good holes at all. I'd put Turtle slightly above Oak Point but it's close.

No problem...if you only play one more course while you're down I'd make it Osprey. You'll enjoy that and REALLY enjoy the Ocean Course.

Sweet. Thanks for the help. I was really curious about the other courses as well. Sounds like we should play Osprey.

I don't know that I've ever "enjoyed" a round at the Ocean Course. I think it's the hardest course in the United States, with all due respect to Oakmont, Pine Valley, etc. If the wind blows (and I've played it in a blow before), it's impossible. Enjoy the views, expect to have sand in every orifice after the round and wear plenty of sunscreen.

I forgot to mention Cougar. Cougar used to be the family-friendly course there, but they re-did it a few years back and I hear it's really fun now. So, in this order, play Ocean, River, Cassique, Osprey and then it's a toss-up on Oak, Turtle and Cougar. Probably Turtle or Cougar would be my choice. Yeaman's Hall trumps all the above, though (in my opinion).

Yeaman's is almost impossible to get onto haha. I have been looking for someone/somehow to get on and play myself

Forever Changing at this point.......

Yep, I really enjoy the experience of being out there. The course kicks my butt every time but the scenery, conditions and post round bourbons on the porch make it all worth it.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
