shaft head combo

hi everyone hope someone can give me some advise.

 

I currently play a superfast 10.5 with an old ust proforce gold x flex shaft. I have a fast swing speed around 120 but have a negative angle of attack. I hit the ball well, far and straight with medium to high flight but its all carry. The problem is that my brother his just purchased an R1 with a stiff rombax shaft and after years of being consistently 20 to 30 yards behind me he is now booming it past. I know this is not the be all and end all but its very frustrating. What shaft head combo would help get my advantage back. Yes I know I am loosing distance with -aoa and my brother hits it properly just looking for tech to gain that extra bit

Ur right about aoa if you worked on that it would definitely help. Don't know about club wise what will help you cuz your putting way too much spin on the ball on the negative aoa. I recently had the same trouble with long drive. I kept getting my ball flight to rise and drop out of the sky with no roll. So I teed it higher and hit up on it and got amazing carry and roll. I'm talking its 330 to the back of my range. Starting my session I couldn't get it to the end and then started hitting up on it and was flying out of the range. Was an easy 30 yards difference. Or just go but a longer shaft that helped me.

As for club wise I thinks it's a waste of time to buy more. You could always get a longer shaft. Also with a 120 swing speed I would of thought you'd be hitting alot lower loft. Also lower loft will drop spin rates down a hair. I used a ping i15 8* with x flex 45" on course and my spin was around 3000 now I hit geek dct 6* xx flex 48" and have my spin from positive aoa and now it's 1800 to 2000.

Sblack5 might chime in on here too he's been on trackman several times and has alot of input and can probably help out with whatever questions you.

thanks for the reply. that's what I thought (change swing) as for the degree I find that any lower I struggle to get the ball airborne. but a guess I will need to go down the range and learn to hit the ball properly if I want to boom the ball .

I'm telling you if you get that positive aoa you will see tremendous results in carry and roll, but once you get it down you will need to lower that loft. Give you one drill take a ball tee it high and try to clip the ball off the tee without touching the tee. Will help might start hitting them low on the face so it will just be a drill to use for hitting up. Good luck if you need more input send me a pm and we can go into detail.

This might be relevant to you...think it is for me.Specifically: 3. Stay short of the point where the body can no longer sustain spine tilt away from the target. In a face on view, the rear shoulder does not rotate closer to the front foot than the rear foot. If you read it it explains that this will cause you to need to slide toward the ball or have a negative angle of attack.

this is a big help, that is exactly what I do swing my left shoulder over my right foot .
