Anyone ever play here?

Has anyone ever played Northshore G&CC here near Topsail Island and Snead's Ferry, NC???

Worth playing?

I have not played there but everyone I know that has (and that total exceeds 10) raves about it. It is a must play I am told. Another course in that area worth playing IMO is Castle Bay. No trees to speak of. Great greens. If wind is blowing, watch out! Porters Neck is back open, too.

Worth playing?

Good layout but built on a marsh and can be very wet at times. Lots of water in play and a few holes have a long carry over water (180+). Nice practice facilities and clubhouse as well. There is a Holiday Inn Express adjacent to the course, if you need logging. If the weather is right (dry) it is a good challenge.

Yes, I played it (although it was around 5 years ago). I really enjoyed it. A friend of mine's parents live there and I was his guest. There were some interesting and tough holes. Lots of water too!

It is a great course! I played it two years ago on Spring Break. Great designed holes/layout and I would definitely recommend that you play it while their. Just watch out, on one of the par 4's (believe on the front) their is a pond with about a 12 foot alligator in it. I hit my ball too close for comfort. :drinks:

I used to play it all the time from 2001-2004 when I was stationed in Lejeune. Loved the greens compared to the MCB there. I believe it was only $40 to play if you play with a member. Nice layout but like someone said earlier, gets pretty soggy as the drainage wasn't that great there. The pro there is a retired Marine Corps Gunny that I used to play with at MCB when he was on A/D. There is another 27 hole course just south of Wilmington heading towards Myrtle Beach called Magnolia Greens that is a tester. Was a PGA qualifier course a few years ago. Fast greens and a pretty tough/long layout.

I played the front 9. VERY forgiving fairways. I was hitting HIGH FADES and HIGH DRAWS and was always in, or close to the fairway. Nice set up, I was near Lejuene for the past 4 days. Good winter conditions, but I could see how it could be a very WET course in the spring/summer and fall....pics coming tonight.
