Speeder 757 vs Rombax 7V05

Performance Characteristics

I have a played a Fujikura Speeder 757 for the last 3 or 4 years in both stiff and extra stiff. Shaft has performed better for me than others I tried (Diamana 63 and 83, Fujikura Pro 95, 761TB, 661, 660TR 27.3). I know the spec differences noted below - interested in different performance characteristics I could expect with the Rombax and even the 671 TE.

I like the ball-flight I see with the 757 (no ballooning others have reported) and I like the feel (not boardy to me). Looking to try a little lighter shaft, that may be a little more forgiving on those not so perfect days. Always have preferred a firmer tip shaft.

Speeder - 757 Tour-Spec --------------46 77 2.5 midhigh
ROMBAX 7V05-----------------------------46 70 3.6 mid/midhigh

Speeder - 671TE Tour-Spec -----------46 64 3.4 midhigh

We have totally different views of the 757...so I dont know how much my opinion well help. I always felt the 757 was too boardy feeling when I had it in a driver, in a 3 wood it felt fine, but driver I hated it. The 671TE is a wondeful shaft with a high price tag and I think it no longer being made by fujikura. The Rombax and the 7V05 in particular is currently one of my favorite driver shafts , I have it both in my 460 J33R and FT-3. The rombax can and does launch higher then the 757, obviously not as tip stiff torque wise as a 757..but I dont feel you will lose any dispersion with a rombax. The weave design makes the rombax play very tight compared to other shafts with similar specs.

Johnny -- Thanks for the reply.

I also read your review of the Rombax in the shaft review section. You mentioned you are playing a stiff in the Rombax, where as you normally play an extra stiff flex. Does the Rombax play a little stiff to flex or are you experimenting with a softer flex?

Any review of the 671 TE would be appreciated -- comparing to the Rombax.

I'm not getting any younger :) The callaway in a borethur and the J33R is tipped 1/2 inch. It's been a while since I hit a 671TE..I favored the 771TA in those days due to the smoothness of the 771TA when I played a Tourstage J340, my J340 was also 10.5 loft and the 771TA launched a little higher then the 761TE. Now was for 671TE vs ROmbax in all fairness they were played many years apart in not all in the samehead. But I will say the rombax is better feeling..,longer, tighter and launches higher....I hit some monster drives in the summer with a J340/Rombax combo...which made me try it in more forgiving heads.
