Does anyone have insight on the pros and cons of each place?

I have been to both Gregg Rogers and Golftec and both fittings were okay but not as good as I was hoping. I'm sure it also depends on the specific fitter that you get.

After things get better with the pandemic, I am actually going to go to Modern Golf in Richmond, BC.

I’ve been to Club Champion and Gregg Rogers in Bellevue, GolfTec in Lynnwood, and Puetz in Seattle. Below are my experiences and opinions. Yours may be different. I’ve found a lot depends on the fitter. But the business models are different too.

Gregg Rodgers: 2018. Did an iron and wedge fitting and had a great time. Limited selection but I wasn’t interested in anything too exotic. Really happy with the results. Didn’t feel pressure to buy. Charged me a small fee for just the fitting time. Ended up building my own set based on components we settled on during the fitting.

Golf Tec: 2019. Did a driver and wood fitting. Not a good experience. Fitter and I weren’t communicating well with each other about objectives. I typically play heavier and shorter clubs, prioritize accuracy over distance, and wanted to see if I could tighten up dispersion even more. He kept talking about distance. In the end I think we found a good compromise position for me to play a little longer club but not a lighter shaft. It was just awkward to get there. Got a little pressure to buy as if they had a special relationship with OEMs that would get clubs to me sooner, but no cheaper than I could get elsewhere.

Puetz: 2019. Friendly staff, not pushy, and outdoor range with Titleist Practice balls gets a bonus point. I went to Puetz after I went to GolfTec as a second opinion to confirm outdoors what I saw on the indoor simulator. I was very hesitant at first thinking it would be even more pressure to buy, but I was straight up about what I was doing (looking to confirm some indoor fitting numbers) and the fitter was really cool about it. I ended up buying a new driver and fairway wood from them on spot. Since then, I’ve been able to buy some Trackman time from them when not busy — they are only place that seems cool about letting me go at it without obligation for a “fitting” or a “lesson”.

Club Champion. 2020. They have best options / selection by far. Did a full bag fitting including putter. The putter was fun and informative. They give speech up front that you don’t have to buy anything, and I was crystal clear that I was really happy with my current equipment, it was all fairly new, and simply wanted to see if there were any shafts out there that would be an even better match to my swing, since they had a much wider selection than other places. I also told them if I did buy anything I would just want components and would assemble myself. The session was really awkward as I had to keep reminding the fitter that I didn’t want to buy all new clubs (like when he insisted I try a different driver club head), but would be willing to buy shafts if they would sell them at a competitive price. In the end, found the KBS $-taper to be a better fit for me than the PX shafts in my irons, and the Motore X F1 better than the Tensei White. They had a high markup for the shafts, and also wanted to upcharge me for Puring the $-taper shafts. I told him I anticipated that shaft to have very good radial consistency and wouldn’t be worth it. His reaction to that was strange — said something like “suit yourself.” I think Club Champion will work for a class of golfers who are willing to pay top dollar for access to a lot of options and don’t want to tinker or build their own stuff, do their own research/reviews on specs, prices, etc. It just wasn’t a good experience for me.
