Both are low spin shafts, but the Fubuki is high launch, and most will tell you the Whiteboard is a relatively low launch shaft.

I think this begs the question - If two shafts are purported to be low spin yet one launches higher, what property of the higher launching shaft allows it to remain low spin?

That is an interesting question. I remember hearing from these forums that the Fubuki was an anomoly from other testing, not a project in itself. I don't know what property it is that makes it launch higher, so I didn't answer your question, but that could explain the origins.

In what way are you using the word anomaly.

An anomaly is any occurrence or object that is strange, unusual, or unique. It can also mean a discrepancy or deviation from an established rule.

Are you saying it's characteristics are negative in the way the shaft reacts: High Launch, Low Spin. Or are you saying the shaft is so different that a lot of people can't figure out why it is so great.

I believe he actually meant both occurances of this word.

The Rumor is that Mitsubishi was lab testing materials for whatever, but happen to get results that were an unusual, strange and unique that were also believed to be a mistake or discrepancy because of established rules regarding these materials or whatever they were testing.

This anomaly was then applied to a golf shafts b/c they thought it might create golf shaft the created high launch/low spin which are conditions that are hard to get in combination.

The research anomaly, has also created a shaft profile that is somewhat of an anomaly.

Well, i think "high launch" needs defining. From what i understand is the Fubuki launches higher than a whiteboard (more like a blueboard) but spin is comparable to the whiteboard. Now if that is true then i don't think the Fubuki would classify as "high launch" compared to other high launch shafts out there (ex. V2 HL or ProLaunch Blue). When the blueboard first came out it was hailed as a low launch, low spin shaft with a great feel. Now, of course, there are lower launching shafts out there. But it's not like the blueboard is launching moon shots comapred to the whiteboard or other low launch shafts..

The million dollar question Dyno. I've asked it a few times myself.

Generally stiff tip but softer mid section to get the ball up. I think the trick is how near the tip you can let it flex and how much the tip actually flexes aong with torque etc. Mitsu may have found a unique combo of materials and profile to allow a normal type feel along with the profile. Some of these type shafts have an odd feel. I believe Michelson was using one last week.

Mechanically speaking if materials are equal and flex is the same, it is a combination of flex point and tip vs butt stiffness.

I could be wrong here, but with the Diamanas, compared to the Fubuki, it's all about the sections of the shafts that are flexible. The Redboard is most flexible in the tip section, resulting in the highest launch with the most spin. The Blueboard is stiffer in the butt, with a flexible mid section and a semi-stiff tip section (stiffer than the Red, and softer than the White) resulting in lower launch and spin than the Red. The White has a soft butt section, with a stiff mid section, and a very firm tip section, resulting in a lower launch, with low spin. The Fubuki has a Whiteboard-like tip section, with a Blueboard-like mid section. This results in a mid-launch (like Blueboard) with low spin (like Whiteboard). It also has some low deflection technology in the tip to aid in increased ball speed. I have played the Blue, White, and Fubuki quite a bit. The Fubuki may be advertised as a high launch shaft, but for me it is not. It launches almost identically to the Blue, and spins almost identically to the White. With today's clubheads, it's all about launching the ball high with as little spin as possible, and for me at least, the Fubuki fits the bill perfectly.
