Offset does not cause you to hook the ball. I suppose if you think you're gonna hook it then you will but other than that it should not cause you to hook it.

Wow! You learn something new every day and today I learned something new.I would have bet my life that offset will promote a right to left ball flight {for righty's}.Every set of irons Ive ever had,the more offset, the more "hook" or "draw".Maybe it was just in my head.My misses are hooks or draws.I couldnt hit a "cut" shot or power fade if my life depended on it.Im not a scratch golfer and at the moment Im somewhere around a 9 or a 10 {my putter hates me} but conventional game improvement irons just seem to make my misses worse. Also, the draw/hook gets progressivly worse with the shorter the iron.In my mind that is why I carry blades begining with my 7 iron.A blade or a club with no offset seemed to help correct that problem.Im gonna have to spend some more "quality time" at the range with my video recorder.Obviously something else, like me coming over the top or a similar flaw,is going on with my swing.I learned to play the game with a set of Maxfli {Dunlop} Australian blade and played those for the first half dozen or so years that I played.I would prefer to play a blade with all my irons as a forged blade feels much better except when I "thin" or skull one.Ill come up out of it from time to time.Usually when I get quick or anxious.I am def. going to spend some time on the range and tape my swing.Im really curious as to why I draw the ball. It's not a nasty snap hook but more of a gentle draw that can/does at times draw a bit more than Id like or compensated for.
Thanks for the 411 on this topic.

Offset serves two purposes, the first is it helps position the CG lower which will cause and create a higher ball flight for those golfers who have trouble getting the ball up in the air, the 2nd purpose of offset is that it allows you a little more time to help square the club face at impact to help reduce slicing or hard fades, whatever you prefer to call it?

You are probably shutting the clubface at impact or coming too much from the inside in the downswing which is causing the draw/hook shot.

Soooooo, if you naturally hit it high you should lean toward less offset? How much can you alter the ball flight when changing the offset assuming everything else remains the same.

Thanks, JS
Ive been practising all year, getting much better at striking da ball... I was hitting sweet shots for a while.
now i eaither hit a hook, bout 10-15 yrds left of my target or else a nice draw bot a foot left of my target
Im using the tm 09 burners, u think ive too much offset???
10-15 yards is 30-45 feet. Most greens are well within the size that would allow you to aim at the middle of the green and still be close to or on the putting surface. The 'or else' is a foot left of the target. So you're missing between 1-30, maybe 45 feet left of the target? Seriously, how much of a problem is there? Sounds more like a possible lie angle change is in order.

I have seen this a gazillion times. IT IS NOT the offset, per se, that is causing the problem. Offset can cause many players to set up with the club aimed to the left, especially if you are aiming casually off the top line. Try this: set up to hit a shot in the middle of a run of "lefts" and stop. Look down at that club face, paying attention to the bottom line, and tell me if it isn"t shut.
