Wider sole irons for a Digger?

Should i be playing wider sole?

Recently i have been playing my MP-32's and have been noticing some long deep divots. A litle smaller than a dollar bill in length and a size of a penny deep. I have been striking the ball pretty well, but i have come to find that my fat shots feel no different from my pure. I hit a ball that looks real nice, but see it fall 15 yards short of what it should. I dont hit a lot of fat shots at all, but if i dont crisp the ball, i am going to lost a good amount of distance. I did not really see this problem with my Bridgetsone Combos either. Does this mean that i should move to a wider soled iron? I was thinking maybe like a bridgestone cavity back would be a better option so i dont dig on them so much. Any help would be great.

Wider sole with more bounce will prevent the club from digging into the ground. It is a little less versatile to play these clubs (i.e. the x tour irons) but for someone who finds themself hitting the blade like irons too fat yes this would keep you from digging deeper into the ground. Unfortunately, on hard pan it'll still have the same effect. Thus making it very hard to take a divot. Find an iron with more bounce than the one you are playing and you have found at least a band-aid if not a true solution.
