LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The wife of pro golfer John Daly has reported to prison for a five-month sentence on a federal charge involving a drug ring and an illegal gambling operation.

Sherrie Miller Daly, 30, pleaded guilty in November of 2004 to a charge of conspiracy to structure a transaction to evade the reporting requirement. Daly will serve five months of house arrest after she is released.

Daly is scheduled to be released June 23, said Rosie Harless, a public information officer at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington.

Sherrie Daly and her parents, Alvis and Billie Miller, were indicted in Mississippi on charges stemming from what authorities said was a drug ring and an illegal gambling operation.

Alvis Miller was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison. Billie Miller received five months to serve and five months of home supervision.

Prosecutors have said the two-time major champion didn't know about his wife's activities, which took place between 1996-02. John Daly met his fourth wife at a tournament in Memphis, Tenn., in 2001 and married her seven weeks later.

Hi Beauty, yes that news has been out for a couple days, he was talking about it in a GolfChannel interview after one of his practice rounds.

Wow. I had no idea.... I had pretty much stopped watching the TGC because of all the paid adverstisements and lack of real golf entertainment, if that's the right verbiage. That's too bad. I don't know much about John Daly except that he smokes a lot, likes to drink and has a waaaay over the top swing. :huh:

Actually its been out now for a couple of years. I remember hearing about it after the sentencing.

I think the trial was last summer, I believe they were charged a good while ago.

Did anybody not know about this! She, and her father were arrested and charged in the Spring or Summer of 2005.

You guys are right, the original trial was last year, the announcement of her actual incarceration was just announced at the beginning of the week. Thanks for the clarification.

I take my hat off to the guy that he can play half decent despite of all of this happening around him. :huh: He is such a great guy it's a shame about the stuff that happens to him. Here's to a better future for big John. (cool)
