Paderson iron shaft tip prep question.

Recommended Posts

I have had the good fortune to come across a set of paderson iron shafts on the cheap ( free.... yes free). They are the 80 gram green Kinettixx Ballistic shafts. Parallel. 370. The iron heads I would like to put them into are Mizuno MP 29’s that are .355 taper tip.

Heres the question: can I sand the tip down enough without effecting the Kevlar Wrap? I know not to tip them. I would think some tip prep is ok ... I just want to sand them to fit. As these were Free it is no loss of investment... but those heads are my fav.

I can bore the heads out if necessary but would prefer not too if at all possible.

Help advice appretiated.

I'd call Paderson. Most likely yes but a call will provide the definitive answer.

Ok. Thats what I thought. I failed to mention in the OP that I actually have 3 sets on MP 29 heads. The original chrome set ... old as stink, a newish set that is gunmetal... and the “ gamers “ currently in the bag with Matrix programs in them. I can ream the heads of the Gunmetal set of heads without Worrying about messing with the newest set of heads. They are a slate grey finish that I really like. In great shape and no glare. Fantastic clubs. One of the best mizzy made. IMO.

I also have considered using the set of original Adams MB pro Black heads that I have too for this project. These are the first gen Adams MB pro black heads( with the weight screw in the back). Ive got alot of blades to choose from. MP 33’s ( 3 sets) ... MP 14’s ( 2 sets) and my TA1 sets ( gunmetal and tour issue sets). Deciding on what head to use is the issue. This is basically a free experiment with lower gram weight shafts. May just ream a set and go with it... I guess its a good problem to have due to YEARS of collecting heads that Ive played and liked. Thanks for the replies! I will reach out to Paderson and ask as well.

I put the wedge shafts ( the Golf Works Kinetixx made for shafts 120 gram) in some Vega heads and instantly loved them. Flight dispersion and accuracy are great for me. Have picked up some hybrid and driver shafts as well to try out over the winter.

Again thanks. More replies welcome too! Hit em straight!

I have installed the wedge shafts from Golf Works in my vegas.... love the trajectory and control. I liked them so much I bought a hybrid shaft of that same line, a driver shaft and two iron shafts to test as well. Next day I cam across a set of the green shafts described and got them too...

I intend to build A few irons with the green Kinetixx ( will ream the hosels of one of my MP 29 sets and shaft up the .355 Trajectory series shafts ( one is stiff the other is regular) and test out to see which one fits the bill the best. Im more interested in ball flight and trajectory than distance gains ( if any) but I would guess dropping from a mid 100 G shaft to an 80 to 75 G shaft may give me more launch and carry. I dont dislike the Matrix Programs... just doing an experiment with lighter weight shafts. I hit some in a LM and had good success

thanks.

Just want to let all yall know. I got email back from Paderson ....

They let me know you can reduce tip diameter in these specific shafts ( with the Kevlar winding pattern) with Light belt sanding ( Light was underlined). So I might give this a shot. May purchase another shaft to experiment on first before deciding to open up the hosel bore with reaming. Ive done that before and it is very easy.

Hope this may help out anyone else that has these or thinking of purchasing similar shafts. I must say I am rather impressed with these shafts and the quality. Ill post a review on what I decide to do and the build and the performance of the new shafts.

Happy Holidays and hit it straight.
