stiff vs. reg

hey everyone:

well i don't know how to ask this other than just coming right out. i know how to strike a golf ball but as far as tech savvy goes i need a little help. last year my swing speed was more than capable of accomdating stiff shafts. this year this is soooo not the case. if i were to switch to a regular flex (ie r300) would this increase my distance? i realize i may lose some accuracy due to dispersion. i was told (not too long ago by a salesperson while watching me hit into a screen) that as far as shafts go swing speed is overated, it's how you "load the club". is this statement accurate? because there was some doubt...okay a lot of doubt in my mind. also, the constant weight uniflex shafts used by callaway and similar by nike (which i do not like) et al are they legit in their claims? thanks all

Swing speed, shaft flex and your swing plane are some keys to load the shaft properly IMO.

 

More flexible shaft definitly will give you a better snap at the ball to give you xtra yardage but that doesn't mean straighter also. Consistency are coming from playing w/ the right set up club and repeatable swing.

I would agree with Joe, one thing I might suggest is to demo a stiff and a regular iron of the same model. if you compare them side by side and are swinging in a groove you should be able to determine which shaft will better suit you. my motto is ,when at all possible , try before you buy. hope this helps good luck !
