Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2024

When I say that this week is time for something different this week on the PGA Tour, you would be forgiven for mistaking that as a nod to the fact that Scottie Scheffler is not going to win (he is not in the field). It is however a reference to the Tour flipping the usual individual, 72 hole, strokeplay into team, 72 hole fourballs and foursomes play. Heading into the week there is an interesting mix of teams - from Ryder Cup heroes, old college alliances and in three of the teams brotherly bonds. The format for the week will be fourball in rounds one and three with foursomes in the second and fourth rounds. Expect low scoring particularly on Thursday and Saturday on the very scoreable Pete Dye Design.

I have grown rather tired of him covering his mouth after a missed putt. 

 

This tournament was once played at English Turn if memory serves.  I just like saying English Turn.

Miss this being an individual tournament. I enjoy what it is, but just miss it being an individual event. I have a buddy that caddied on tour for a couple years, and we would go over on Monday to see him and hang out on the course, talk to the guys and all that.

if it had stayed solo it wouldnt exist imho. so just be satisfied with the great memories you have

Good news is there are about 60 other events throughout the year that suit you.

Being a team event, I think it should give PGAT set-up guys liberty to try some outside the norm things. 

 

Why play this at 7400+ yards?  One day play it around 6800, the next let it tip out.  To the best they can, mix some weird angles in there.  Keep it light and fun and keep the pairs thinking.  Big swings in difficulty with the holes and really make them strategize over who drives which holes.

I find it hard to say but i'm all golfed out... so will be taking a break from viewing this week! I will watch the odd bit but I need a weekend off 😂

Should be interesting on TV because the format encourages riskier shots. At least in four ball. But since I'll be playing golf all weekend,  I would only watch late Sunday if it looks close. And I generally just won't give this the attention I give normal tournaments.

 

Bottom line: my interest level is very low on this one.

I wish they worked this into the PGA fantasy golf. I'd still like to make picks.

 

This is event is okay, I'd prefer a real match play back on the PGA calendar.

English Turn so much cooler a course than tpc. Tpc probably more suited to pro competition in every way, but ET is the prettiest course in the area.

I like the Hadwin Taylor Canuck group. Great putters. Long enough to have easy second shots.

Will be nice to see a year without rain.

Might even go out w some buddies one of the days.

I love the PGA tour. I watch every week. Except this one. 

Everyone would be better off if this tournament didn't exist. It's a complete joke and shouldn't count as a PGA tour win.

Team golf just doesn't work for me. There's a reason the PGAT discontinued the team format in the past. Lack of interest. IMO

 

That said, I'll give it a quick look though. 😆

I'm always in favor of having some tournaments on the schedule that are not simply stroke play, so I'm glad this event exists.  Ditto how the Reno-Tahoe (Barracuda) uses Stableford.  I still wish the match play would make a comeback and that a tournament would implement it since the WGCs are no longer a thing.

I’ll give my obligatory “what I wish” take. 
I’d much prefer to watch the match play tourney in Texas they got rid of than this. I’m still watching this though.

The Stricker/Kuchar paring screams yellow ball and comfortable spikeless shoes. Also, watching Matt over the ball with that big rounded back isn’t an enjoyable look.

I like that they do this, even if the course doesn't scream exciting. I like what someone else said above about allowing the tour to do some unique things all week this week, but we know we won't see it. 

 

That said, the Match Play absolutely NEEDS to come back. Such a unique tournament that golf fans, imo, should really enjoy seeing at least once a year.
