Im not sure were you are getting this information, but I know quite a few people in the college golf scene. And a friend of mine plays golf at La Salle University, which is ranked 275/285. I dont know why you would say something like that giving many kids false hope. However, congrats sykes coming to watch you, what is you handicap? Have you committed anywhere yet?

Yeah, I'm going to have to follow up with what Phil said. I play golf for Temple University and to say that D1 programs will take kids who shoot in the 80s is an absolute joke. Temple isn't some golf powerhouse and Temple wouldn't go recruiting some kid who goes out and shoots in the 80s, or even a kid who is a 5 handicap. I think if you look deeper you will find that an extremely high percentage of D1 college golfers are Scratch players or better, not shooting in the 80s or anywhere near that.

Alot of people look at the college scores and see they aren't all under par and get there hopes up, but it is alot different playing in a college tournament with pressure on you than going out and playing a casual round with your buddies.

However, how many kids on your team currently have scoring averages under 80? Don't go out acting like you guys are playing on tour setups when you've only played two courses this year setup over 7,000 yards.

Tournament golf is a different animal than casual golf. But if you can average 80 at the tournamnent level you would fit right in on most lower level D1 teams.

Well for starters I never claimed we were playing courses that were set up for Tour like conditions, but they are definitely set up alot harder than they are for any day of regular play. Also, every regular starter on our team has a scoring average of under 80. You're right that for most lower level D1 teams having a scoring average under 80 wil probably be good, but I would suspect that if someone was a 5 handicap they would have a difficult time of having a scoring average under 80 during a college season.

I agree 100% on the 5 handicap thing. I will say, however, that I find it amazing how many "scratch" players average above 78-79 at the college level. I know tournament golf is a different animal, but we need to shift how we evaluate playing ability to determine handicaps.

Also, upon review (I hadn't really checked, and I apologize) the regular starters on your team do average under 80. I had kind of lumped you guys in with the Lafayette and Lehigh group, and that was an ignorant statement on my part

Yeah, I understand what you are saying with the handicap thing. I actually work for the USGA right now, and think there are certain things to be done to reevalute playing abilities like counting your most recent 20 scores instead of your best 10 out of 20, but anyway. Thanks for researching the scores and admitting you didn't look at first as alot of people would have been ignorant and just not admitted to something like that. It is nice to see some honorable people on this board.

I am a senior this year at Lindenwood University. It is an NAIA school just outside st louis, missouri. Great school and great team. We play mainly D1 and D2 tournaments, and get to go to some cool places. Conference Champs 6 yrs in a row (still going), won regionals 4 of last 6 years, and havent missed the national tournement for over 5 years. Great competition and fun place. We finished last yrs. rankings 9th in the country. Trust me, NAIA golf is not just chump golf, there are alot of players. Check on golfstat and the #1 player in the rankings comes from an NAIA school. So good luck and hope to see yall around.

I, am a sophomore, and golf at a small private catholic college in Bismarck, ND. The University of Mary is a Division II school. We are small compared to other D-II schools in our conference, but we are pretty talented. This was our inagural season in D-II. We did take third in our Regional Conference tournament. So we will have a pretty talented team coming back next year.
