JDM Trackman data ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Any of you JDM gamers have some Trackman data comparing JDM performance to current US OEM clubs ? Id be interested to see the comparisons if you have the numbers especially with drivers.

Also if you could purchase one JDM driver at the current moment, which driver would you select ?

Thanks !!

Can't help with thge Trackman question. There are many good drivers out there. Jbeam, Ptune, Syard , etc. Really a huge assortment to choose from. I would spend time over at TourSpecGolf and look over the store and the forums. Hard to choose just one driver. Some are better at distance than forgiveness like the Jbeam 435 while others like the Trpx are more of an all around performer. You also have many head sizes to choose from. Take a look. The first one won't be your last. Great people over there also. Tario or Chris will be more than willing to help you out in the store and great folks in the forums also.

I'm not sure what you're looking for. There is Coefficient of Restitution (CoR) limit for drivers, so they all have a limit on ball speed vs. head speed. There is no general trend that JDM has less or more spin.

The shaft also has a large effect on the launch conditions.

There are very little similarities between Japanese and US clubs when it comes to shafts. So all you're doing is comparing shafts in some "test."

Thx for the reply....

You are correct that it is the pairing between shaft, head and swing that determines how effective a driver is.

Perhaps Trackman Data would be ambiguous because it would be difficult to discern where the performance is coming from ( Shaft or Head or both ).

That being said not all driver heads are created equal and just cause COR is maxed out does not mean they will all perform the same. So many other variables determine performance of the overall driver along with the shaft ( MOI, COG etc...). So I was just interested to see how the pairing of shafts and heads from the JDM market were performing compared say this years X-hot or Ping G25. Just a curiousity. Nothing more than that. Im not judging either way.

I am new to the JDM market and trying to learn as much as I can.

BTW: you also state there are very little similarities between shafts in the JDM and US respective markets. Could you expand on this ? How do they differ so greatly? Im not up to date on all the new technology.

Thanks again.

Standard shafts in JDM gear is usually a little less stiff than US gear. For example, DGS300 shafts are common in the US and S200 are the standard for DG steel shafts in Japan. NS Pro 950 S is the most widely used steel shaft and it flights the ball higher than Dynamic Gold.

Most JDM driver shafts, in my experience, have a fairly high trajectory. Japanese fairways are not as hard or cut as low as courses in the U.S., so carry is emphasized. Most fairways are like resort courses in the west (fluffy lies), so there is very little roll.

Not all are high trajectory, of course, but the usual mid-amateur gear is higher trajectory.

Graphite shafts for Japanese domestic are tighter tolerance to specs than the same shafts marketed in the west. For example, Graphite Design shafts made in Japan cost about four times the price of shafts made in the U.S. because of the manufacturing tolerance. The tour-grade Graphite Design shafts are all made in Japan.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
