Golf Course Web Site

Need your advice, please...

Hello all... I am going to redesigning a web site for a local golf course. I was hoping you could help me with a couple questions I have.

1) What are some of the things you would want to see on a web site like this?
2) Do you have a favorite course web site? If so, what is it and why do you like about it?

A cool thing you could do is integrate Google Maps and mark the tee boxes, bunkers, etc...but that's just me.

I don't have a golf course website that I like, but one thing I can't stand when viewing websites is inconsistency! But, since your redesigning a site, you probably know a lot more about it than me!

I really like to see the scorecard and map of the course, maybe a printable yardage book. I use this information to put together my bag for a round since I like to switch up my fairway woods and hybrids depending upon course length and hazards.

 

Course history is nice, if it has an intresting past.

If it's a semi-private club, an "members" area that they can use for listing tourn results, club news, etc.

 

On-line tee time capability is fantastic (IMO a "must have"). It frees up staff time for more sales ability/customer interaction.

 

An area that can be used for promoting instruction.

I was thinking of a "Tips from the Pro" section and a coupon section. I always check a web site for coupons.

Here's a website for a local course here in San Diego. I like the site because it has great course info, a rate sheet (I hate sites that say call for info), you can book tee times on-line, etc. The only thing I'd like to see on this site is maybe a closer view on the holes or ability to zoom in and see distance markers (i.e. 200yds, 150yds, 100yds.)

Rates clearly accessible

High Res photos of course and facility

Calender of events listing scheduled tounaments, demo days and maintenence schedule

Specials Section for course discounts

Online Teetime Booking

Lesson Information and Booking

Great call on the maintenance schedule, even better if it can be linked to the on-line tee time system. Having worked in a golf shop, I have felt the wrath of pissed off players who were not advised the greens were plugged and sanded (gotta love co-workers who care not to tell people these things when taking a tee time!!!). This situation could be almost eliminated for people making reservation on-line if maintenance info is available and up to date.

 

I would might be nice to add a weather conditions link....say to Yahoo or something similar.

Yeah that maintenance schedule idea is awesome...I hate going to courses that don't bother to tell me. The weather thing is a great idea also. weather.com has a great weather system and on the 10-day forecast you can check the weather on a scale from 1-10 as to how it relates to golf conditions.

Weather listing is a must and the maintenance schedule is a great idea. I know the site is against on-line tee bookings. Apparently they tried this in the past and it didn't work well. However everything else listed is GREAT.
