Help! I need to pick a couple courses in Phoenix.

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I'm a Minneapolis WRXer down playing in Phoenix. Looking at golf now Dove Mountain and TPC champions course looking appealing for the price point.

We're playing Las Sendas Today and Falcon Dunes Saturday (brother is in the Air Force). We're looking for a course to play on Sunday and Monday. Looking for some recommendations for fun, beauty, and whatever I suppose. Would like to keep it under $85 a head. Let me know what ya think!

Thanks ahead for your help!

Thanks for letting me know. We have a tee time at ASU Karsten on Monday. What kind of shape is that in? Or is it worth playing?

I know it's in great shape because they had the ASU Ping tournament there a few weeks back.

It's just one of my least favorite courses in AZ. It's just Mickey Mouse golf IMO, so screwy.

So what would you recommend. I made a tee time for the Phoenician on Sunday. Now were just looking for a Monday round.

Hope you get the Canyon 9 at Phoenician. Otherwise a meh course. I've always been a fan of Camelback Padre, and they just opened a new course called Ambiente that is pretty expensive but looks quite nice. In the Scottsdale area McCormick Ranch and McDowell Mountain won't put too much of a dent in your wallet. I prefer Pine over Palm if you do McCormick Ranch. Papago is a top quality municipal and if you get out before the skins game at noon Monday it shouldn't be too slow

I played Club West a few days ago and I don't think that course gets the respect it deserves. The greens were firm and super fast but perfect. Pretty sweet par 3's on the back and it's only $40 right now for the public so it will be well under budget. That would be my suggestion. It gives you a taste of desert golf without being to "deserty" if that makes any sense.

There was a rattlesnake sighting out there last week on the first downhill par 3 on the back so if you do play it watch out haha.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Las Sendas ate my lunch but it was fun! Playing the Phoenician tomorrow (canyon side included) and the club west on Monday. $48 a person on Monday is a deal to me!

Thanks again gents. Your help has been much appreciated.

I enjoyed all the courses I played with the exception of Club West. Kind of felt like a local Minneapolis Muni course to me. At that price though I guess you pay for what you get. That reminded me of the foothills the last time I was down. Do not think that will be back on the list of courses to play next year.

Sorry for the recommendation, I guess it's just one of those courses you have to play a lot to like.

Don't feel bad dude! I shot a 73 so I can't really complain. I totally get the playing it a lot to get to like it. There are a couple courses up in the Minneapolis Metro that are similar. Definitely would have played 2 of the par 5a differently if I played it a second time and I wish I had putted better. I'm not going to complain when that was my 5th round of 2014!

Quintero (@ $100 on GolfNow Hot Deals)
Southern Dunes
Papago
Raven Golf Club
Vista Verde Golf Club
Aguila
Golf Club of Estrella

(In order of preference.)

Camelback - Ambiente (< $100 and heard a positive review, but haven't played)

If I were you, I'd pick Quintero for Monday and play the Muni's (Papago / Aguila) on the weekend. Quintero is not to be missed.

EDIT: I suck at internalizing dates. Sorry for the late suggestions.
