Wilson v Titleist, what to play?

I usually don't use a vise, just free hand them. But any small vise would do. Just be careful not to over tighten

How in the world do you free hand it?

First thing I do is heat up the old grip with a hair dryer or heat gun on a not to hot setting. Helps make the old ones less brittle and loosens any glue residue as well.
Then cut the old grips off using the cut your chum not your thumb method. "Cut away from you."
Then cleanup any left over tape/glue with a goo remover.
Dry the shaft off.
Precut the two sided tape.
Install tape.
Fill grip with whatever solvent you are using.
Pour the solvent from the grip to the tape.
Install grip.
If I use enough solvent once I get the grip started it slides on fairly easy.
If I get all the old residue off and prep it correctly I rarely need to use a vise.
But, I know you the steps to installing a grip, so I did not mean to appear smug. Hope it didn't come across that way.
Basically I just get everything ready and pre staged then hold the shaft in one hand and work with the other.

That looks sufficient as long as it works with your bench top. I used to free hand it also, but the minimal cost of a small vise (which works fine for 95% of your golf stuff) makes it a no brainer to me. Its so much easier when you have both hands free.

FWIW, I've been using a Black & Decker Workmate since I started doing my own club work. Gets the job done and folds up nice to be stashed out of the way, when necessary...

Ok, I got my lie angles all adjusted and the lofts strengthened a bit. I guess they were weak even by 80's standards. Still debating on grips but I will try to make do with the original ones which really aren't in terrible shape until I decide if I keep them or not. Man, I can't stop looking at these things.

I think the 735.cm in stainless are great, with the sandy soil in S.C. They just don't wear out. Wish more cluster were stainless, I had a set of them in carbon and they were smoked in less than 1.5! Love me sum staffs though
