Fourteen FH1000 Shaft Help!

Hey folks,

First post here. So here's the deal. I'm a 7 handicap, been playing for about 3 years. Started with Mizuno JPX HD, then found Fourteen! Glad I did. I bought Fourteen TC-330's with Nippon 950HT (STIFF) on them. Yes, these irons are long. However, felt it was time to move up to the FH1000. So I bought the set on sale (Yes, believe that-had a coupon) (5-PW). Got fitted and found the DYNAMIC GOLD S300 steel shaft to be a little heavy for me coming from the Nippon 950's. So what I did was pull my old Nippon's from the TC330 set and had the shafted onto my FH1000's. I hit the FH1000 beautifully in so many ways.

Here's the problem. I'm losing one club on the FH-1000's compared to the TC-330's. My old TC-330's I could hit the 5 iron about 205ish yards. Believe it or not, even when I crush the FH-1000 5 iron, I'm at 190ish yards. Yes, I know cavity back to blades is very different and going to lose a little on yardage-well maybe for me.

Should I just get a FH1000 4 iron to make up yardage, OR reshaft with something different to try and gain yardage back? I'm already $250 in reshafting the new FH1000 with the Nippon (cutting, bending, grips). Personally I rather not get a 4 iron strictly because I'm at 14 clubs. To be honest, I know very little about all the different shafts, weights, what's good and not. I would thinkabout the 100 gram mark. So I saw, KBS C taper lite, KBS Tour 90, Project X Flighted 95, True Temper XP95 or 105. I would love the Modus 130, but think would be to heavy for me. I don't know if the "fitter" is correct on the weight. I have the Fourteen DT-111 driver and crank that driver 275+ all day- and pretty straight.

So, what's your thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about the distance lost or having to get a 4 iron unless you find yourself having to hit 205 yard shots a lot in a round. I don't assume so since you say you crank your driver 275.

Also the 330 is strong lofted. 5 iron is 22 degree and the fourteen is 27 degree. That's going to amount to most of your yardage loss. Almost a full club.

I don't believe reshafting is the solution. If you like the 950s, stick with them. I'm sure you can find shafts that will get back your distance but is the cost really worth it.

Thanks,

I replaced my 4 iron with a fourteen 4 hybrid. However, I'm like 215ish yards with that, so I have that gap in between (25yards I feel is a lot). Believe it or not, it seems to be an issue more then not. Like a par 5, crank out a 300ish drive, could be 200ish yards to green. Problem! Because even if I hit the FH1000 5 iron perfect, will be short and the 4 hybrid will be to long. I totally agree with the lofts, and the JPX HD's and even the TC-330's are long irons. I used to hit my JPX HD Gap about 130ish yards. Now I have a RM11 Gap and hit it about 110 yards. And adding in wind to the face will make them even shorter. But, think your right and going to play with them for a little and see if it really alters my game with distance. But its not me with the irons. I just played with another long hitter, and he tried my 7 iron to a 160ish par 3. Yes there was a little wind to the face. He hit it perfect-SHORT by a few yard-like 5-10. With the 4 iron, I'd be looking at about $180 just for the iron. Then would have to buy the Nippon 950HT, bend, cut and regrip. I'd probably be looking at $250ish. And no, I really don't want to drop another dollar into my set since I spent so much. However want and need it correct for my game. If I reshafted for an example for another $250 or so, and gain yards and got close to were I was it would be worth it as I planned to keep the FH1000 for a very long time. The problem is, what shaft, and Imdone with dropping money into a well to "SEE".

Well, I think you answered your own dilemma. I've never worried about gaps on the longer irons. My 4 irons is 195 - 200 but I carry an 18 degree hybrid after it. So I have a pretty big gap between the 2 but its only been a problem a few times. I just choke down on 18 hybrid if I need to hit it shorter. I didn't find a point to get another club that I may hit once maybe twice a round.

Good luck. The 1000s are great looking clubs

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
