Hi Everyone!

 

First, I'd like to say that I'm very grateful for all the great content on these forums. Thanks everyone!

 

I became interested in golf in May, immediately bought a set of clubs (Speedblades + a Ben Hogan 1-iron), read and made notes on 5-lessons (2x) and Keys to an Effortless Swing and practiced no less than once a week and often twice a day. Golf shoes arrive tomorrow.

 

My friends (who have been golfing for decades) recommend I start seeing a pro, but am I right to be concerned that their advice may not be for me?

 

As an example of what I mean, I consider Michelle Wie's swing to be the ideal and I like her straight knees at impact like McIlroy and not the more "bent knee" swings of Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, or Ben Hogan (though Hogan often had his front knee straight). This is just one example, but there are countless other things I feel like we might disagree about.

 

This is basically my swing, although I'm not sure why sometime my right elbow is bent at impact and sometimes it is not. Should I aim to lag more so that my right elbow is still bent at impact like so many long hitters?

Can anyone recommend any pro's in the Chicago area?

If you just started in May and have a swing like that I'd say that's pretty darn well.

Well that ball off that driver went way right pretty fast.

I do notice that when you finish your right shoulder is lower than your left. I like my right higher than my left. Stand in a mirror with your side facing mirror with hands down by your side. Try to grab imaginary basketball behind your right shoulder with both hands, bring down like a downswing and thorough releasing imaginary basketball with both hands over your left shoulder. You should finish in the mirror with your chest facing it and your right shoulder will be higher.

I would try to finish more with your chest towards target. It looks like you stop rotating a little early and your spine angle is significantly tilted right and you don't make it to your left side all the way.
