Golf in Dallas/Prosper Area around Thanksgiving

Hi there,

 

I will be in the Dallas / Prosper area Nov 26-28 and looking to play golf.

 

I have heard that Stonebriar is a great course but can only play with a member or as a hotel guest. Anyone have any connections there?

 

Or recommendations for any other golf courses? I am looking to play somewhere nice.

Cowboy golf club is not too far from that area and very nice course.

The Bridges in Gunter is due north of Prosper. I have not played there in a while. It is rarely crowded and nice by all recent accounts.


Old American Golf and the Tribute are not far from Prosper. Both will be$90-135. They are literally adjacent to one another. Both are fine courses. OA is very challenging. Cowboys is really nice but much further and $185-225 per round. Texas Star is easily the best public course. $75ish. I'm at a private club, and almost always play Texas Star when i can. It's also quite a drive from Prosper.

Thanks for the tips, any deals on the Cowboys Club that you know of? Unless someone can convince me its worth the ±$200...

I live about 10 minutes from The Bridges and play it 5-6 times a year. From Prosper you can probably get there in about 20-25 minutes. It's a Fred Couples course, wide open, links style. It's worth playing if for not other reason it relatively inexpensive compared to course like the Tribute, Old American, and Cowboys, none of which I have ever played.

With numerous tee choices it can play it as long as you want, I think up to 7,700 if you want. Greens are big, very undulating, and they can get them quite fast if they want to. I enjoy playing it just for a change of pace. Being wide open, if it's windy it will be very windy, if it's cold it will be very cold, and if it's hot it will be very hot.

Has some fun and unique holes like a driveable par 4 (#6 depending on which tee and the wind) and one green (14th) that looks like they buried 2 or 3 elephants right in the middle of it. When putting on #7 look right off the very back right hand corner of the green and you'll see the back tee box for the next hole literally about 5 yards from the green. The 18th hole is quite the "fun" hole. It's a par 5 where you hit over water 3 times. One other thing that most people won't notice is the front 9 goes out in a circle and the back nine makes a figure 8.

It's definitely worth it unless you are only playing one day and then I would try to get on somewhere else like Gentle Creek in Prosper which is absolutely my favorite course in the area. It's just a very fun course to play and its much nicer than the Bridges. But you have to have some connections to get on there. If you are a member somewhere have your pro call them or you can just call them yourself. It's definitely worth a try.

Old American is semi-private (I'm a member), so you might want to call ahead to make sure that you'll have access. FYI -- it can be really demanding with your "C" game; B+ or A game will have no problems. Pay attention to the occasional pot bunkers in mid-fairway (#1, #2, #11, #14). Also, choose the correct tees. There is a big difference between the whites (about 6300) and the blues (6800) and green (6950) tees.
