Need a New 3 wood

Opinions Please!

Not to hijack the thread, but I need a little help here. I need a new 3 wood and have been looking at the V Steel. I have a 85 gram Purple Ice shaft in my 580XD and am not using that driver anymore. If I get a cheap V Steel off of ebay, can I cut down that shaft and use it with this 3 wood?

I have also been thinking about getting the TE Exotic, but for less than $100 if I can use this upgraded shaft, that might be the way to go and save a few hundred bucks for some other clubs. At my home club, I don't need to be super long anywhere with my 3 wood. There are a lot of target golf holes where you can't use driver and need to lay up at about 250. I would rather spend $100 over $300+ for a TE or R7 fairway wood. Thanks for any info.

The Purple Ice should work good for you, it's a good shaft in fw woods. Is the 580XD a TP- Tour or retail, you will need to find out if the shaft tip is .335 or .350., same with the 3 wood heads you've buying. You can shim from .335 to .350 but it's not recommended to go from .350 to .335 by sanding down the tip. Guys have bored out the .335 size hosels and then .350 to .350 is attained. In using that shaft, these are the issues you are faced with, guys do this all the time, your fitter shouldn't have any problems with them.

It is retail, so I believe it is a .350. Now I just need to find a fitter. My first 2 choices would be the Exotic and R7, but not sure if an extra $200 is going to get me that much more performance.

Anyone know a good fitter in the Seattle area?

Just curious, but are most drivers .335 and most fairway woods .350 so that a graphite wood shaft can be tipped and properly fit into a fairway wood?

Generally speaking, retail drivers and woods are mostly .350 hosel size. And generally speaking, most tour drivers and fw woods are .335 but there are exceptions to this rule. Cally's are different than most all others.

Most graphite shafts have parallel tips or say 2 inches up to as much as 5 inches, for insertion depths and tipping and such. The same holds true for steels shafts, and mostly they have much longer parallel sections.

Guys like Joe K and Robbie P would know much about this than I would, I'm just getting you started in the right direction.

So, for example, the r5 and r7, 904 and 905 all have .350 hosels?

I'm not really sure about the Titleist's woods,I think they're .350 but not positive, but for sure the TM retails are .350 hosel size.

If you are looking to get fit in the Seattle area I would suggest checking out the Puetz Golf original location with their big pro shop and range. The staff there is extremely knowledgable and you would have access to just about every viable 3 wood currently on the market. Obviously I'm biased towards the Exotics, but the main thing is that you have the ability to demo and compare.

Thanks for the info. I am in Issaquah, so I haven't been up there in a long time. Do they have the Exotics up there to demo? I would love to try one of those out. Might help me pull the trigger on one.

I have a Sonartec SS04 Tour 13deg fitted with a Purple Ice shaft, this thing is a weapon long straight tremedous ball flight. By far the best head shaft combo I have tried.
