Tell me about those old titleist forged...

pro series wedges....cs, dl3, bf etc.

I'm wondering about some reviews, pics, etc. of those titleist forged wedges from a few years back. They sure look nice (via titleist club archive) but I've heard conflicting reviews of them. How do they play/feel, and what is the going rate for them?

I played the 61* ELK and 54* DL3 wedge until someone did a smash and grab job on my car...

 

I loved them. I thought they felt great...better than the vokeys. If memory serves, they spun a great deal too, but that could have been the old school balata I was playing

 

I'd say that if you're a Titleist guy and could pick one up in decent condition you'll find they're quite playable and very comparable to anything out now.

I had a 56-degree Curtis Strange model that wasn't anything special, but I swapped it for a 59-degree David Duval model. Great lob wedge. The best, easiest hitting lob wedge from the fairway I've ever used. Nice wide sole, good for getting out of the rough, too. Not easy to open up and hit flops, though.

 

I still rotate the DD wedge in and out of my bag. It is great on some of the shorter courses I play where I end up with a lot of approach shots inside 100 yards.

 

As I recall, the most unique model was the Brad Faxon sand wedge, which had two holes drilled in the low back to raise the center of gravity for a lower ball flight on full shots. These were all discontinued when the Vokeys came out.

I love those wedges I have a BF 56d and a ELK 61d

 

The 56d BF is my all time favorite wedge. It's great for hitting knockdowns because the two holes drilled in the back. I had the chrome taken off mine and it's soft as butter.

I've also got one of the "ported" Faxons. I really is a great club...hard to find one in really good condition, however.

 

Another unique thing about that wedge series was the shaft...a Titleist Forged Wedge shaft, according to the band. It always seemed to play like an S200 to me.

From what I remember those Titleist wedge shafts were DG S200.
