Shanty creek or Crystal mountain

My wife and I are looking to do a stay and play for 3 nights and 2 rounds of golf. Which of these resorts would you pick? Which one has better courses and which is a nicer resort . Thanks

At only 2 rounds, I'd say Shanty Creek. I have heard very good things about Crystal though.

 

Others in the area are good as well, although not owned by the resort if that matters to you.

 

Cedar River - (T. Weiskopf) - Links style in hardwoods - 6989 yards

The Legend - (A. Palmer) - 7 mile course with lake views - 6764 yards

Not sure about a true stay and play package, but you might be able to work a deal.

I'd second the Shanty recommendation. There really is nothing to do at Crystal - kind of in the middle of nowhere. The "village" at Crystal has this weird vibe - its all fabricated and just too cutesy for me plus there are only the two courses there to play.

Shanty has 4 courses and depending on your wife's skill level I'd suggest a round a Cedar River and a 2nd at Schuss (nice course but a little cheaper). There is also the Chief next door and Hawks Eye down the road a mile so you have plenty of options. See if you can stay in one of the condo's vs the hotel. The Legend Cottages are particularly nice. In town hit Shorts for dinner and then ice cream at Ruthie's.

There's not a ton around but short's is worth a visit for sure.

Make use of a good kitchen or grill and the local superstore.

 

Otherwise, there are a few good joints in town, Shorts is far and away the best. Used to be a place called Lulu's but it closed (4* food). I'd say if you want a nice dinner, try the lodge at Schuss, very nice views of the lake as well.

Crystal mountain, can't beat the website "lesson on golf" deal for

410.00 for two people

Well I'm back from the trip. We really liked the courses at Shanty Creek. We played Cedar River, The legend, Schuss mtn and went to Hawks eye. Those were some fun courses. We rented a condo ate at Shorts and the Chief a couple times. We will come back.
