Rehoboth CC is ... a good value, but not the other two. Head to something like Poquoy Brook or Old Scotland Links. Segregansett also has a "Member for a day" thing.

With that kind of pull - For RI-ish area - Shelter Harbor, Pt Judith, Sakonnett, in that order. If you can get on to Eastward Ho in Chatham, all the better.

 

If you haven't played Newport CC before, 2 words of warning: 1) Don't go into the traps. They are not fluffy sand, but literally "beach" - rocks and pebbles and all. They are penalty traps to be avoided at all costs. 2) The rough can be penalizing. They don't cut it often nor groom it. You may or may not have a 1st cut. Fairways are your friend.

Forgot to add Sakonnett to our list. . We will be playing a few late afternoon rounds there.

No prob. Poquoy and Old Scotland are a couple courses good for the local fix. I don't know how much time you'll have for golf, but an hour away in Plymouth (Stay on 44 to Rt 3 and take a right) are some much, much better courses, like Pinhills, Waverly Oaks and Crosswinds. Figure I'd throw those into the mix if you have the time to travel. I'd choose those over Poquoy and Old Scotland in a heartbeat.

No idea. I've only gotten on through tourneys and fund raisers.

has anyone played Acoaxet?

A few years ago I did. It's a 9 hole course with good views. Play it if you're nearby (within 15 minutes), but I wouldn't put it on the "must play" list of private courses in the area or make a special trip to play it. There are many others I'd choose from first.

During the high season it's almost impossible unless you're coming from a name club. I have a friend who's a member at Sakonnet. They have reciprocity, but for members only... no guests. If the original poster can get on anywhere I'd suggest Kittansett, Wannamoisett, or Eastward Ho!
