Set make up with a 44° PW…

I am struggling with how to put together my bag considering the lofts of modern irons. With a 44° PW, do you have big gaps between wedges all the way up to 60°? Maybe cut it off at 58°? Go with 44 PW, then add 48, 52, 56, 60? And then what about the long end?

 

I’m thinking I may go with the 44, 50, 56, and 60. And then below the 5 iron (25°) go with a 21-22° hybrid and an 18-19° hybrid. The only thing that really bother me about the long end is the number of head covers…

I go 48, 54, 58. If you are comfortable working your pitching wedge 44, 50, 56, 60 would work out well.

• I play a wedge-fest course 
• My long iron setup is 2/4/6 with lofts of 18/23/27 which gives me an extra club to work with
• I've always wanted to try a "wedge" 48* so here we are

I have a 45° PW, and go 50-56-64.

At the other end I go Driver-4w-7w-4iron.

I go with a 50 degree gap wedge then 54 and 58.  Alternatively, you could go 55 & 60.  Bend them to meet your needs

I worried about this when I got the T150, but 48/54/60 works well.

I go 50-54-60 and it works great. My 50 works as a full swing club then my 54 usually handles anything from 80-105. Actually easier than it sounds once you get good at half and three quarter shots with it.

Bend 44 to 45.  Then use 50-55-60 wedges.  Yes, it's TRUE.  Wedges can be bent.

Went 1* weak in 6-PW bc of the same issue. If you don’t want to weaken I would go 44/49/54/60. Better to have tighter gaps at the higher end imo.

My setup is callaway apex pw one weak at 44.5 then I go into a 4 wedge setup 48, 52, 56, 59 and I took a fairway out of the bag to do it just this year. Previously had too large of a gap between my PW and a 50 so I retooled it and added a 48 and bent the rest of my existing wedges.

I jump from 45 to 52. Not right for everyone but it doesn't always need to be neat gaps at the top.

Been playing 44* PW then a 50,56,60 with no issues. I hit a lot of punches with the PW and even a 9 iron. Saturday I’m going to play a 52/58. Only reason is the 52/58 have graphite shafts like my irons and see how it works. The 52/58 leftover from another set I once used.

I go from 44°>48°>52°>58°. Definitely not for everyone but it's been working for me for over a year.

I have the ZX5's with a 44* PW.  I have a 48* CBX4 which is pretty much a full swing club. I had a 52/56/60.  But I prefer a 58* to a 56, so may just go 52/58 for awhile. I'll keep the 56* in the bag with all that bounce for certain types of bunkers...but the 52/58 will get the lion's share of partial wedge/short game shots.

I'll elaborate a little.

I do have a fairly large gap between 45°PW and 50°. But I rarely find myself in that 120 yard no man's land, and when I do, it's not too hard to taker a little off the PW.

My 50-56 is a nice 10-15 yard gap. I've always been a full swing wedge player, but I find my Fourteen wedges are deadly when I swing at 90% or less. I have no problems using my 56° everywhere inside 90 yards, and I can open the face and use it like a 60 if the lie is good. The 64° is for when I really have no other shot. With 10° of bounce, It's easier to hit than a lot of 60° wedges I've had over the years.

Any set that has a 44 PW should give you the option to buy a matching GW, probably around 50 degrees.

 

Buy that, then add 2 specialty wedges as required. I go with 54 & 58.

Lots of good answers here. My old set had a 45 degree PW. At one point, I had wedges bent to 50/55/60 because I figured “hey, 5 degree gaps sounds nice.” I ended up wanting my 50 & 55 to come down in flight a bit and carry further on 3/4-full swings. So I ended up at 49/54/60. Weird but it worked.

 

in the end, it’s all about distance gapping and getting the flight you are looking for. Chances are, you’re only taking full swings with something up to the 48-50* range anyways. So, figure out what distance you want and then pick something that gets you there. Everything above that is mostly for half swings and green side stuff.

My t150 pw is 44 and I use vokey sm10 in 48F, 54F and 60K.

I favor protecting my wedge matrix at 50-54-60 so I would live with the 6*, can flight a pw as needed.

 

Top end would be tricky for me: I’d maybe go D-3w-5w optimized settings to gap to 4i (favoring a utility head for launch).

Currently playing TM770s with a PW at 46 and a 50 and 56.  Gapping works.  Considering picking up a set of Mizuno 245s where the PW is 43.  We’ll see if the gapping still works

44 pw, 50 / 56 / 60 works fine for me

 

With 14 clubs there will always be gaps in the bag, that's why most pros have a rotation at the top end so they can carry 4 wedges
