Amelia National is great. Private

North Hampton is nice as well. Semi-private

Β

The holes along the Ocean on Ocean links are unique of course, but I think Oak Marsh is more challenging and fun.

Β

Thanks for the input!

If you have access to Long Point and the Golf Club of Amelia Island, I recommend Long Point first by reputation. I've only heard good things about it, though I haven't played there yet (it's the only course in the Northeast Florida region I haven't played, from Pablo Creek to Palencia).

Β

I play most of my rounds up that way and here's how I'd rank the courses in the area that I've played*:

  1. Oak Marsh - Pete Dye course with a nice layout. The greens should be back from the recent punch at the end of August.
  2. Golf Club of Amelia Island - Just a really nicely-maintained resort course
  3. Ocean Links - Way tougher than its slope and rating suggests. The beach holes are beautiful and unforgiving. Play up if you're not feeling confident in your control off the tee.
  4. Amelia National - A Tom Fazio-designed private course that plays pretty easy and tends to be in good shape.
  5. North Hamption - An Arnold Palmer course that plays tough. Often in good shape but recently punched.
  6. Amelia River - A fine, if not a little blase track. The back nine is way better than the front. Tends to be overpriced on GolfNow unless you grab a Hot Deal.

If you're not staying at the Ritz-Carlton it'll be hard to get onto The Golf Club of Amelia Island. Same situation for Long Point; unless you're staying at the Omni AIP or know a member, getting a tee time will be a challenge.

I would agree with everything said here. You will like Oak Marsh. If you have a chance for another round, my group's favorite course when we're not playing TPC Valley is Amelia National. Very enjoyable, well conditioned course.

Β

That's great to hear. I'm glad you liked it.

Β

On a related note, I highly recommend playing Long Point if you still happen to be in the area. They're gearing up for a member-guest tournament and the conditions couldn't be more perfect.

Β

Long Point was the final check on my list of Northeast Florida golf courses to play and it is definitely one of my favorites of all time for both quality of design and turf conditions.

Β

Β

Β

Β

The greens were perfect. I'm not used to Northeast Florida greens being so fast and smooth.

Β

Β

Some pretty intimidating forced carries from the tips

Ocean Links is so bad. There's only room for like 14 holes so they forced the others into places they shouldn't be. Course is easily the tightest that I've played in my entire life (dead serious) and houses are in play on nearly every shot. Do not pay full price- you can get it on golf now for $30-$45 daily. Oak Marsh is so much better.

If you're going to be in the area any time soon, it's worth playing Ocean Links before it closes at the end of this year / early 2018.

Β

Ocean Links was bulldozed this past week, RIP, I won't miss it, wouldn't have played it again. Concur on Oak Marsh, so much better. Supposedly they are going to be putting some significant $$$ into upgrades for Oak Marsh.

As much as I hate to see any Northeast Florida course close, I won't shed any tears about Ocean Links closing. Even though they kept it in good shape, there wasn't much that could be done with the design. It probably had the lamest closing hole in the state (a 130 yard par 3).

Β

As a resort pass holder, I would play it about once every two years. I would forget how much I hated it and by hole 3 I would remember.

haha I forgot about 18. I remember the first time I played it and I thought "did I go to the wrong hole or something? How can this be #18?"

Β

So are they closing it for good or just doing renovations? I will admit that #16 is one of the great holes I've played. The tee shot from the tips has to be one of the most intimidating of any course that I've seen.

Β

I think the course is done and will be replaced with more condos. From what I've heard the situation is similar to the golf course at the Wynn casino: the land for the golf course is worth more than keeping the golf course.

Β

Still, it's no real loss. Yeah, number 16 was a cool hole but it was impossible on days when the wind blew in from the south.

I am looking to go down to Amelia Island end of Apr early May.. What golf courses can I get on since I am staying in an Air BNB.. Looking for top 4 golf courses I am to play without resort stay

Β

I'd like to join your question. I am going to play somewhere in Amelia on my drive back from Augusta in early April. Pretty much settled on trying to play Oak Marsh but would like some other ideas!
